Lutheran Women
turn back time
Lutheran Church Women turn
ed the pages of time back 100
years on Tuesday evening when
Mrs. Gordon Hess, Mrs. Harold
Thiel and Mrs. Earl Yungblut
dressed in costumes of that
time, presented the March
meeting. Signs of the days
gone by were evident, coal oil
lamps, old pictures, table -
clothes etc, and music from
a victrola was played.
The old hymn books were
used for the devotions and a
poem from a book published in
1901 was read. Gordon Bess and
Barry showed slides of Zurich
from as far back as 1900. The
ladies found it most interesting
as they tried to name some of
the people and places.
Mrs. Harvey Hohner, vice-
president, presided for the bus-
iness meeting. She thanked
the ladies and Gordon and
Barry for their most interesting
evening.
The ladies of the United
Church and the Catholic Church
are to be guests at the April
meeting on Wednesday, April
17. The bathrooms are to be
painted next week and the lad-
ies are asking for volunteers.
Mrs. Harvey Hohner is to
attend the convention in May
as the local delegate. A mot-
ion was passed that the organiz-
ation serve the dinner at the
United Church Centennial
Celebration in October. The
meeting was closed with prayer
by Pastor A.C. Blackwell,
followed by a social hour.

Not all farmers think alike
on the subject of land use and
I'll give here some arguments
I've heard lately who differ
substantially from what I've
been preaching in the last few
weeks. We were talking about
the possible new nuclear plant
south of Goderich and if farm-
ers should oppose one at this
location. Some said, "Why
should we oppose it?" It will
give some farmers a good
chance to sell their property
at a price they never thought
of."
So what if farm land goes out
of production. The remaining
land will be higher priced and
we will all be better off when
we sell. Besides, the law of
supply and demand says that
with less land and consequently
less food, the price will be high
er and that is not to be sneezed
at. It is no concern to us that
the shortage of food will neces-
sitate it to be imported from
other countries.
Urban people are apparently
unwilling to pay for what we
can offer them, so let them try
foreigh farmers. Another bonus
a plant of this magnitude will
provide is, that my children wil.
have an opportunity to make
real money instead of taking
over the farm. And the children
who are already working in the
towns can now quit their jobs
and go to work for the plant.
If those other small town
plants have to close down, so
Zurich 4®H Club
(by Cindy O'Brien)
On Monday, March 18, the
Zurich III 4-H Club met at the
home of Mrs. Don Oke for our
fourth meeting. Our roll call
this week was "a good habit
for the care of clothing." We
had our meeting three and four
discussion last week, so we did
our special projects. Some of
the girls are doing essays,
some are makinglaundry bags
and others are making sewing
kits, The meeting was closed
with squares and chocolate
milk.

'what, we don't need them any-
more, let them locate somw-
where else where the farmer is
still a yokel. We may have
to pay more for our feed bec-
ause the feedmill will have to
pay high wages too, but you
Gant win them all.
After all we don't act any
different from the landgrabbers
in the city who buy a piece of
land and let it lay idle until
the nearby town or city needs
it for expansion. Why should we
worry, when hydro built on the
best agricultural land because
it's cheaper that way? After all
hydro belongs to the people and
if the people don't care, why
should we?
Let's take what we can when
the time for taking is right and
the heck with everyone else."
