Education theme at Hensall
Womens Institute
The Education and Cultural
Activities meeting of the Hen-
sall Women's Institute was held
Wednesday evening in the
Legion Hall. President Hilda
Payne welcomed everyone and
the meeting opened in the usual
form. The roll call was answer-
ed with your favourite type of
book.
A financial statement was
given by treasurer Marg Ingram.
Mrs. McAllister reported having
received a short letter from
Brother Bob, in India, thanking
the Institute for the money they
had sent him to help him in his
work. A nominating committee
was elected to bring names for
the new executive for April.
Dues were paid to the Mentally
Retarded and to the Historical
Society.
Business consisted of an invit-
ation from Hurondale W.I. to
attend a Dessert Euchre on Wed-
nesday, March 20 at 1:30 at
Usborne Central School; a food
forum entitled "Poultry Please"
to be held April 10 at the Clin-
ton High School; an invitation tc
visit the McMichael collection
at Kleinsburg; a letter from
Mrs. Zoeller, chairman of the
Erland Lee Home Committee
reporting on some of the activ-
ities proposed for 1974.
The April meeting schedule
was reviewed by Hilda Payne.
Program convenors for the
evening were Jessie McAllister
and Greta Lam -rile. Everyone
enjoyed a sing -song. Mrs.
McAllister read a synopsis on
ideas on reading of books and
the uses of the library and told
about the different types of
libraries there are ; e, g. Greta
Laramie showed three different
types of books available now in
real large print, medical, rec-
reational, science, etc.
Mrs. McAllister introduced
Don Feaver, of Hensall, who
is the librarian of Goderich
Collegiate. who told about his
job as librarian and how he has
the responsibility of choosing
and buying all the books for the
school library. Mrs. McAllister
thanked Mr. Feaver and pres-
ented him with a small token.
Sadie Simpson, who assists
librarian Marg Ingram at the
Hensall library, showed books
from the library and told a little
about each of them, which prov-
ed most interesting. Mrs. Mc-
Allister read an article entitled
"Reading is for everyone."
Myrtle Sherritt gave courtesy
remarks and hostesses Annie
Reid and Susie Purdy and their
helpers served lunch.

Kinsmen plan
bicycle rodeo
On Saturday, May 11, the
Kinsmen Club of Hensall will
be holding a bicycle rodeo at
the Hensall Arena starting at
9:30 a.m. This will be open
to all children, those attending
Hensall Public School as well
as surrounding areas. Grades 1
and 2 will be Junior; grades
3, 4, 5, and .6 will be Intermed-
iate and Grades 7 and 8 will be
senior.
Prizes will be given as well
as free memberships to the Crus•
ader Cycle Club to first, second
and third place winners and the
first place winners will be ent-
ered in the area finals in Harr-
iston on June 22.
Enrollment forms can be obt-
ained from the Hensall Public
School or from Dick Packham,
98 Mill Street, Hensall, at
262-2128. Two safety classes
will be given at the Hensall
Public School by the OPP Saf-
ety Officer, Constable Wayne
Moulton, at 12 noon on April
22 and 25, with the enrollment
form.
There is a bicycle safety
check list. This is to help par-
ents make their children's
bicycles roadworthy and safe
for him or her to ride. This
card is to be brought to the
final test on May 11 where Con-
stable Moulton will check the
child's bicycle before he takes
the road tests.

ATTEND CONFERENCE
On Sunday, March 10, seven
Kinsmen attended the zone
conference in Harriston. Memb-
ers attending were president,
Bev Bonthron, past president,
Wayne Reid, secretary Jim Stan,
vice-president Spike Bell and
Kinsmen Jim Hyde, Dave Shur -
man and Dick Packham.
Kinsman Jim Stan participated
in the Gord Harbison public
speaking competition, and
although he spoke very well he
did not win. At the luncheon
the area clubs made their donat-
ions for Cystic Fibrosis to the
guest for the day, Miss Lisa
Hyde, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Hyde. From the thirteen
clubs in this area $2800. was
collected.

Police report
Only one accident was rep-
orted this week. A car driven
by Donald Foster, Exeter,
went out of control on County
Road No 4 and struck a fence.
Damage was estimated at $450
by Constable Al Quinn.
On Tuesday, Mervyn Johnson
of R.R.1, Grand Bend, reported
the theft of wood valued at
$20 frorn his farm. Constable
Al Quinn is investigating.
The theft of an antique cup-
board occurred on Wednesday
at a vacant farm on the Blind
Line, owned by Bev Gould.
Value of the cupboard was est-
imated at $50. Constable
Dale Lamont is investigating.
On Friday, Earl Haist, Steph-
en Township, reported the theft
of two antique cupboards from
his vacant farm house, Const-
able Bill Lewis is investigating.
On Saturday, at the Dufferin
Hotel, Centralia, a car window
was broken by vandals. Const-
able Frank Giffin is investigat-
ing.
