Powder Puffs
hold meeting
(by Dale Schwartzentruber)
The. Powder Puffs held their
first meeting on February 25 at
the home of their leader Mrs.
Orlen Schwartzentruber. Miss
Martha Neeb is our assistant
leader and we have 12 girls in
our 4-1-1 Club.
In our first meeting we dis-
cussed our image and asked
ourselves "is our image import-
ant to us or to others".
We then elected our officers,
president, Diane Smith, secret-
ary, Lynn Schwartzentruber,
vice-president, Debbie Eckel;
press reporter, Dale Schwartz-
entruber and treasurer Sylvia
Neeb.
What makes a girl attractive
was then answered by all.
Some of our answers were neat
appearance, good posture,
clean hair, and clothes, pleas-
ing personality and clean teeth
and nails.
On March 4, we opened the
4-H Pledge with 11 members
present. We lost one girl to
the other club. Our roll call
was "when meeting a person
TOTAL PACKAGE
Home Care is a total pack-
age, designed to keep people
out of expensive and in -demand
hospital beds and in their own
homes where recovery is often
speedier. The program has
equipment like walkers and
commode chairs available for
loan to Home Care patients,
Service clubs loan the equip-
ment free of charge but Mrs.
Cardno says there is always
more needed.
"We can in some cases repl-
ace hospital care, rather than
being just an extension of it,
Mrs. Cardno says, adding that
the public and in some cases
doctors, who must refer a pat-
ient for Home Care, try to use
the program for extended care.
342 PEOPLE
One of the 342 people who
were Home Care patients so far
this year is (their year runs
from April to March) a woman
who had varicose ulcers but did
not want to go into hospital.
She asked her doctor about the
possibility of Home Care, the
doctor referred her to Mrs.
Cardno and the woman was
treated at home under the prog-
ram through VON visits and
part-time help from a home
maker.
for the first time what do you
notice first 2" We answered,
"their hair, nails eyes, clothes
and personality.
The basics of good grooming
was then discussed and they
are cleanliness, clothes, neat
and well pressed, hands and feet
complexion and clean hair.
Things for body cleanliness
were shown and the following
were suggested, bath, deodorant
tooth brushing, mouth wash and
perfume.
A manicure was given and
each girl tried on one another.
It was very interesting.
The leader had a surprised
for us to take home, an old
fashioned recipe to try out. It
consists of 1 cup skim powdered
milk; 1 cup fine oatmeal and
1 cup laundry starch. Tie in
a piece of muslin and put into
warm bath water and swish it
around. jump in and scrub
yourself with the bag. Twenty
minutes later water will be
milky white and you will
come out with your skin smooth
er than ever before.
Good luck girls, with your
bath.
