Flyers and Shipka Bears battled
to a .3-3 tie in South Huron
League action. The game was
the final of the regular schedule!
for both teams.
The Bears went ahead 1-0
at the 11.35 nark of the first
period when Bill Hoffman bang-
ed in a pass from Jim Guenther.
About five minutes later the
Bears went ahead 2-0 when

pass from Guenther by Percy
Bedard in the Zurich net. Less
than a minute later Ron Desjard
ine shot the locals right back
into the game when he clicked
on a pass from Paul Corriveau
and Pat Bedard.
Even though the Flyers held
a big adge on the play in the
first period they wee turned
back on every scoriing opportun-
ity by Joe Arnold, Who was
almost unbeatable in the Shipka

ally, with less than five minute:
to play in the middle stanza,
Pat Bedard picked the corner
for the locals on a pass from
Brian Campbell and Ron Desj-
ardine. Shipka played short-
handed throughout most of the
second period, but sensational
goaltending by Arnold kept the
Flyers from scoring at least a
half dozen times.
With only 45 seconds played
in the third period Kevin Mc-
Kinnon broke in on Arnold
after picking up a forward pass
from Richard Schilbe and Bob
Merner, and scored what looked
like the winning goal for the
next 15 minutes. however, dur-
ing the last half of the third
session the Bears forgot about
penalties and pressed hard for
the equalizer. Only brilliant
work by Percy Bedard kept them
from scoring until the 15.54
mark when Bill Hoffman shot a
puck from behind the net and it
hit Bedard on the back of the
legs reflecting into the goal.
Neither team managed to score
in the last four minutes of the
game and it ended 3-3.
Shipka drew a total of 11
penalties, of which two were
major for butt -ending. Three
minor penalties were called
against Zurich.
Both goalies, Percy Bedard
and Joe Arnold, turned in spect-
acular performances through- oui
the entire game.
As a result of the tie Shipka
ends up in first place in the
South Huron. hockey League,
w`iile Zurich finished up in
second. Shipka now meets Huron
Park in the first round of the
playoffs, while Zurich meets
Centralia College.
The first home game in the
Zurich -Centralia College series
is scheduled for Sunday after-
noon in the local arena. Game
time is 2 p.m. Winners of the
two series will meet in the final
round for the league champion-
ship.
