Zurich minor hockey round -up

The Zurich Atoms played
two games during the past week,
winning one and losing one.
Their first game was played on
Wednesday, January 9, in Zur-
ich with Zurich taking a close
3-2 victory over Seaforth.
Zurich started the scoring
early in the first period on a
goal from Robert Willert, giving
them a 1-0 lead at the end of
the first session.
Seaforth tied the game in the
second period on a goal scored
by Jim McLaughlin. Zurich
again took the lead early in the
third period on goals by John
McAllister and Jim Willert.
Seaforth managed to score
another goal late in the third.
Seaforth's scorer was Mike
Nash, leaving Zurich in a one
goal victory position.
Commissioner Harold Graham
this week announced that on
February 24, five OPP detach-
ments, selected from the 185
establishments in Ontario, will
begin testing the 4 -day, 40 -
hour week.
The tests will involve 160
uniform members of the force
at the following locations:
Ottawa, Port Credit, Owen
Sound, Noelville and Belle Riv-
The Atoms played again on
Saturday in Goderich giving up
a 5-2 loss ovet the strong God-
erich squad.
Goderich led the scoring in
the first period on goals from
Boyce and Kelly. Zurich's
lone scorer was Robert Willett.
The only goal in the second
period was scored by Kelly for
Goderich giving them a 3-1
lead at the end of the second.
Goderich scored twice in the
third period while Zurich scored
once. Goderich marksmen were
Graham and Kelly. Zurich's
lone scorer was Robert Willert
leaving Goderich with a 5-2
victory.
PEE WEES PLAY TWO
The Zurich Pee Wees played
two games during the past week,
winning one and losing one.
Their first game was played
against Hensall with Zurich
taking a 3-1 victory. There were
no goals scored in the first per-
iod.
Len VanWonderen started the
scoring for Zurich early in the
second period. Kevin Parker
tied the game but Zurich
quickly retaliated on a goal
from Grant Love. Barry Over-
holt was the only scorer in the
third period giving the locals

The Pee Wee's played again
on Saturday in the Silver Stick
Tournament in Watford. They
met a strong squad from Alvin-
ston, taking a 9-2 beating.
Unfortunately the names of the
Alvinston scorers were not avail-
able, although Zurich's
two goals were scored by Grant
Love.
MIDGETS LOSE CLOSE BATTLE
The Zurich Midgets lost a
close battle to Seaforth last
Wednesday, January 9, in Zur-
ich. After having a two -goal
lead twice, Seaforth luckily
managed to out -score the locals
by a close margin of 6-5.
Zurich led the scoring in the
game on a goal from Kim
McKinnon late in the first per-
iod. Zurich again started the
scoring at the 20 second mark
of the second period on a goal
from Randy McKinnon, Seaforth
matched Zurich's two goals
midway through the second
stanza, on goals from Dave
Nolan and Bob O'Shea.
Both teams scored once bef-
ore the end of the second period
leaving them in a 3-3 tie.
Zurich's scorer was Fred Mom-
mersteeg while Bob Oshea
scored for Seaforth.
Zurich again took the lead
midway through period three,
on two goals scored within ten
seconds of each other. The
marksmen were Danny Turkheim
and Randy McKinnon. Seaf-
orth controlled the scoring for
the remainder of the game with
three goals, giving them a
close 6-5 margin over Zurich.
Seaforth marksmen were Bob
O'Shea scoring twice and Kevin
Bennett scoring once. Seaforth
drew nine minor penalties while'
Zurich received five.

REV. ALPHONSE PAGE
A former parish priest in
Zurich, Father Alphonse Page
passed away in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, where he had
been a patient for some time.
He was 72 years old.
Father Page served St. Bonif -
ace Church, Zurich, for some
years, coming here from Dresd-
en. His home was in Windsor.
Surviving is one sister, Miss
Irene Page, of London. A broth-
er, Louis Page, pre -deceased
him in December of 1973.
Funeral mass took place at
Assumption Church, Windsor,
on Wednesday morning, January
16, at 11:30 a.m. Interment
was made in Assumption Cem-
etery.
