First period scoring was cont- rolled by the Zurich Crew on a goal from Paul Corriveau at the 4.59 mark, leaving the locals in a 1-0 lead at the end of the first session. Zurich again started the scor- ing midway through the second stanza on goals from Kevin McKinnon and Ron Corriveau, leaving them in a 3-0 lead pos- ition at the end of the second. There was a ,otal of nine goals scored in the third period with Zurich scoring seven and the College drawing two. Zur- ich's marksmen were Brian Campbell, scoring three, Kevin McKinnon, Pat Bedard, Ron Rader and Ron Desjardine each scoring once. Craig Schwindt and Nick Barday each managed to score once for the college boys. There were six minor penalt- ies and three major fighting penalties, with Zurich drawing four minors and two majors Zurich Atoms win two (by Danny Turkheim) The Zurich Atoms played three games last week winning two and loosing one to Mitchell Their first game was played in Zurich with the locals giving up a close 3-2 loss to Mitchell. Mitchell started the scoring on a goal from Dave Heinbuck. Robert Willert tied the game in the second period on a goal from Mike Masse. Brian Horner scored the go- ahead goal for Zurich in the third period on a pass from Dav- id Smith. Dave Heinbuch tied the game and then came back to score the winning goal for Mitchell in the third period, giving them a close 3-2 margin over Zurich. The Atoms played again on Friday in Bayfield coming up with a 6-3 victory. Bayfield took the lead early in the first period on goals from Merner and Payne. Zurich matched Bayfield's two goals in the sec - and on goals from Jim and Rob- ert Willert. Dale Stevenson scored the go-ahead goal for Bayfield late in the second period. Zurich controlled the scoring in the third period on goals from John McAllister, David Smith, Jim and Robert Willert, giving them a 6-3 victory. The Atoms played an exhibit- ion game last Sunday against the Exeter "B" team, skunking them by a score of 13 -1, Robert Willert scored Zurich's first goal in the first period. Marks- men in the second stanza were John McAllister scoring once and Robert Willert scoring twice giving Zurich a 4-0 lead at the end of the second. Third period marksmen were Jim Willert scoring four, Robert Willert scoring twice, and Gordon Love, Brian Horner and John McAllister each scoring once. Exeter's only goal was scored by Bruce Shaw leaving Zurich with a 13-1 victory. Game time is 2 p.m. Peewees win two (by Danny Turkheim) The Zurich Pee Wees played two games during the past week winning both. The first game was played against Grand Bend in Zurich with the local squad taking a large 12-0 victory over the helpless Grand Bend crew. First period scorers were Ken Oesch and Kerry Bedard each scoring twice while Mark Regier scored once. In the second period Bob Mommersteeg, Mark Regier and Grant Love each scored once, giving Zurich an 8-0 lead at the end of the second period. Marksmen in the third period were Tom Cyr and Steven Grainger each scoring once and Mark Regier scoring twice, giving him a total of four goals for the game. The goaltender, along with his strong defence - men, managed to shut out Grand Bend giving Zurich their 12-0 victory. The Pee Wees second game w was played against Bayfield with Bayfield taking a 6-1 beating. There was only one goal scored in the first period and that point went to Ken Oesch. Second period scorers were Jeff McKin- non, Grant Love, Kerry Bedard, and Ken Oesch each scoring once, giving Zurich a 5-0 lead. In the third period marksmen were Grant Love for Zurich, and Terry Telford scoring Bay - field's only goal, leaving Zurich with a 6-1 victory. Elston, reeve of Morris Township, was elected warden of Huron County at the inaugural meeting of council Tuesday. He defeated three other candidates to win on the fourth ballot. Mr. Elston, who has been on county council for seven years, replaces Roy V. Pattison, reeve of East Wawanosh Township, whose one-year term expired January 1. Also running for warden were three other reeves; Ed Oddleif- son, Village of Bayfield; Hugh Flynn, Hullett Township and Charles Thomas, Grey Town- ship, Mr . Elston's closest rival was Mr. Thomas, who took 22 votes compared to the victor's 30. Two of the 45 reeves and dep- uty reeves were absent, John Turkheim of Zurich and J.F. Flannery, of Seaforth. Mr , Elston was nominated by Joseph Dietrich, reeve of Steph- en Township. In a speech to council before the vote, Mr. Elston said the county must make an environment where people will build more homes." He also said the reeves must work together to solve their individual and collective probl- ems.
