The pageantry of Easter Day
Has come and gone again;
The hope of life beyond the
grave
Has been retold to men.
Although the Easter finery
did get a bit wet Sunday morn-
ing, I feel that the rain did
little to dampen the spirits of
the people around us. We had
a great many visitors over the
weekend visiting with their rel-
atives and bringing with them
all sorts of treats and many
beautiful Easter lilies and other
plants. Many of our residents
were also out for short visits as
well. This coming weekend we
are looking forward to the fam-
ily dinner for our residents on
Sunday evening, April 29, from
4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Last Monday evening films
were enjoyed as usual. Many of
our residents will be disappoint-
ed when we have to suspend the
showing of films because of the
long day light hours. This week-
end being the last Sunday in
April will be bringing us back
to day light saving time once
again.

On Thursday evening we had
our usual bingo games with the
special prize being a large choc-
olate Easter Bunny which was
won by Mr. William Passmore.
Thursday afternoon some of
our residents enjoyed a bus trip
up as far as Goderich, and tour-
ed the dock and beach area tak-
ing note of damage caused by
high water.
Mrs. Siebert has been busy
with Easter and spring decoration
throughout the Home, which are
very much appreciated not only
by the residents, but also by
staff and visitors as well

Turner's budget

of Federatisn
"Finance Minister John Turn-
er's promise to amend the tax
laws so capital gains tax is post-
poned on farms transferred with-
in the family during the farm-
er's lifetime is a triumph for
farmers," says Gordon Hill,
President, Ontario Federation
of Agriculture.
Hill, a Varna hog and white
bean farmer from Huron County,
adds, "the members of parlia-
ment, and Turner himself,
should be congratulated for
accepting the advice of farmers
and their organizations."
The Ontario Federation of
Agriculture has been working
through the Canadian Federation
of Agriculture for this amend-
ment since capital gains tax was
first instituted in 1972. Turner's
February budget proposals called
for the tax-free transfer of a
family farm on at the death of

the donor farmer. Both farm
organizations opposed this as a
half -measure that would impede
estate planning.
"Farmers need the proposed
amendment so that we can make
intelligent estate plans, and
pass our farms on to the next
generation, " says Hill,
"We have been working to
gain the support of the govern-
ment and members of parlia-
ment. Their backing of the far-
mers' position is essential to
bring this amendment before
the House."
Both the Ontario and the Can-
adian federations, have also
lobbied to get marketing quotas
treated as capital assets with a
Valuation Day value. Under
today's law, there will be retro-
active taxation on the proceeds
of any quota sale.
