Board approves new school year
(continued from page 1)
is recommended that this money
be put back in the trust fund,
and only the total interest from
the combined funds be divided
equally among the students
from the Seaforth District High
School who attend a university
(to a maximum of $500 per
student.
The Board will make applic-
ation to the Ontario Ministry of
Education for approval of a
project by Professor James
Scott of Seaforth to update the
history of Huron County under
the "Experience '73" plan of
the Provincial Government for
grants to students made avail-
able through the Ministry of
Education.
The project is designed to
update the history of Huron
County from 1900 to 1975. The
history of the first 75 years of
Huron County was documented
and made available in a book
commissioned by the Huron
County Council --"The Settle-
ment of Huron County" by James
Scott (Ryerson, 1966). Now
County Council feels it is desir-
able to cover the next 75 years.
With a view to providing
summer employment for Huron
County students, one secondary
school student and four univer-
sity students, Huron Council
has sought the co-operation of
the Huron County Board of Ed-
ucation which has the authority
to apply for the grant.
Mr. Cochrane reported the
board has on file a letter from
the clerk of Huron County assur-
ing the board that any expenses
to the board over and above
those covered by the Provincial
grant would be borne by County
Council.
Because of the scope of the
project it cannot be completed
in a single summer. It is a re-
search -in-detail project that
will take the form of a cross-
indexed, color -coded master
file which will contain brief
extracts of basic material plus
reference to sources for further
information. It will cover all
facets of county life --transport-
ation, agriculture, municipal
government, industry and com-
merce, education, etc.
In his summary to the board,
Mr. Scott explained how the
project would serve as a learning
experience for the students and
contribute to the local commun-
ity.
Reporting for the Manage-
ment Committee, Donald Mc-
Donald, chairman, recommen-
ed that support at the annual
convention of Ontario Public
School Trustees Association, as
requested by the Lambton Coun-
ty Board of Education for govern•
ment legislation for bus safety
regulations, be tabled at this
time.
The board approved the ass-
ignment of the existing transport
ation contract with James R.
Armstrong to G, T. Montgomery
Limited. This covers the routes
of three buses carrying students
to the F.E. Madill Secondary
School.
Recommendations from the
Director of Education approved
are as follows: An additional
half time teacher for the Gold-
en Circle School at Wingham
be engaged effective Septemb-
er 1, 1973. Currently the enrol-
ment at the school is 15 full
time andone half time with a
staff of two. On September 1
there will be 15 full time and
seven half time students.

senior Outers Club at South Hur-
on District High School, approx-

develop camping skills, plan a
camping trip, plan a menu,
practise portaging and observe

on District High School at Exet-
er on a four-day trip to Mont-
real and Ouebec_.C.ity. The stud-
ents will leave Exeter May 9
and return May 13, travelling
by train from London to Quebec.
This is an annual trip to acqu -
aint students with the cultural
and historic aspects of French
Canada, to enable them to hear
French in its own setting, to
foster an awareness of the pract-
ical value of French in daily
life in Canada and to encourage
their efforts in this area. No
cost to Board.
A field trip was approved to
send approximately 30 Grade 11
and 12 Physical Education stud-
ents from Goderich District
Collegiate Institute on an over-
night hike to the Maitland
Conservation Authority property
on May 15-16 to develop camp-
ing skills. No cost to Board.
A field trip was approved to
send approximately 20 students,
members of the Senior Outers
Club at South 'Huron District
High School, Exeter, on their
annual weeklong excursion to
the Magnetawan River area,
with Algonquin Park as an alter-
nate destination, on May 19 to
May 26, by private vehicle.
This will be the final exam
on the year's work for the Outer°
course.

recommendation that the Board

ment, no longer used and of no

A few weeks ago the Hensall Planning
Committee sent out a letter and stamped
postcard asking your opinion on cable TV.
AH but 100 homes have returned the
cards. It's not important whether you are in-
terested in cable or not; the success of the
questionnaire depends on a 100% response
either way.
If you've lost the card or didn't receive
one by all means contact the Clerk's Office or
Harold Knight for a reply card so we can in-
clude your opinion.
Thank you for being interested.
