Theodore Wagner, of Zurich,
left on Monday morning for
Waterloo Seminary, where he
has enrolled for the coming
school term.
The Hon. S.J. Latta, Min-
ister of Education in the Sask-
atchewan government recently
paid a visit to the home of
Mr. J. Fitzgerald, at Chisel-
hurst. •
Mr. Jack Routledge, of Cent-
ralia, and formerly of Zurich,
has received word that he is
being transferred to the Dutton
branch of the Molson's Bank.
A public meeting of the
Huron Trustees and ratepayers
was held in the Zurich Town
Hall on Monday night, and
was well attended. A township
of Hay organization was formed
with the following officers;
president, John Laporte, vice-
president, W.C. Pearce; sec-
retary -treasurer, Miss M. A.
Lamont, directors, William
Alexander, David Ducharme
and Albert Hendrick.
Miss Luella Schatz has accept-
ed a position in the post office
at Dashwood.
40 Years Ago
Mr. Bruce Bossenberry, of
Forest, Harry Bossenberry, of
Port Franks, and Frank Bossen-
berry, of Kitchener, were
visitors in town this week, also
attending the funeral of the
late E. Bossenberry.
Messrs. Ward Fritz and Milt
Fitz had a motor cycle hike
to Sarnia on Sunday afternoon,
and we are told they made the
return trip in an hour and
twenty minutes, so there was
no grass growing under their
feet.
Miss Anna Datars, who has
not enjoyed her usual good
health the past week or so, was
taken to London Hospital for
treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Gascho and Ross, also Mrs. O.
Surerus were Sunday visitors at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Gascho, of Harriston.
Miss Phoebe Gelinas, who
spent two weeks at her home on
the Goshen Line north, has
returned to her duties in London.
Fred Hess and Son, of Hensall
are putting quite a long exten-
sion to the rear of their jewel-
lery store which will be used
especially for the presses and
equipment of the Hensall
Advertiser.

Bean prices are soaring higher
every day. At Hensall the deal-
ers are paying six dollars a
bushel, and are also paying
for the trucking. This is the
highest price which has been
paid for beans in this area for
the past thirty years.
Miss Doreen Schilbe has open-
ed a beauty shop in Zurich,
after completing a course at a
hairdressing school.
Electrically lighted outdoor
advertising signs and Christmas
lights in business sections have
been banned for this year,
owing to the current rationing
of hydro power.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Haberer
are in Toronto this week attend-
ing the annual convention of
the Ontario Beekeepers Associat-
ion. Mr. Haberer is at present

the top pan in this association,
being president for the past
number of years.
A large number of men from
this area have left for the north-
ern part of Ontario, where they
will spend the next week or two
in search of four -legged deer.

At the nomination for Zurich
Police Village Trustees for
1958, the following have qual-
ified for office and three out

of the five will be elected on
Monday, December 2. Harold
Thiel, Leroy Thiel, Thomas
H. Meyers, Lloyd O'Brien and
John Turkheim. The two latter
have been on the board for a
few years. Mr. Milford Schilbe
who has the distinction of being
the longest Trustee in Ontario,
did not qualify this year.
As a result of last Friday's
nomination for Hay councillors
and Deputy -Reeve, the follow-
ing have qualified and will
stand for election. For Deputy -
Reeve, Oscar Klapp and Alex
Mousseau; for three councillors,
John Corbett, William David-
son, Leonard Greb, John Soldan
and Karl Haberer. V.L. Becker
gets the reeveship by acclamat-
ion for the second time in a
row.

Telephone service on the
Zurich exchange of the Hay
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1972
Municipal Telephone System
was cut off for more than an
hour and a half last night,
when the four regular operators
went out on strike for what
they called "unsatisfactory"
working conditions. The four
girls who were in the office at
the time, were sent home by
Hay Township reeve, V, L.
Becker. Reg Black, secretary
of the municipal system took
over control of the switch board
until temporary help arrived
from Grand Bend exchange.
About 25 neighbours of Mr.
and Mrs. Steven Deitrich,
newly-weds, gave them a
rousing shivaree Saturday even-
ing.
A well-known and highly est-
eemed resident of Zurich for
many years, Christian W. Haist
passed away in Clinton Public
Hospital, on Saturday, Novemb-
er 10.
The village of Zurich has a
new Doctor in the person of
Dr. C.J. Wallace, of Centralia.
He will be having office hours
in the house recently purchased
by the Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Wallace practiced in Engl-
and and Wales for eight years
before coming to Canada about
one year ago. He plans to carry
on with the present office hours
for about one year, after which
time he will be moving to Zur-
ich on a permanent basis.
NEWS OF VARNA
The Explorer group met in
the church last Wednesday even-
ing. Brenda Dowson opened the
meeting with the Explorer purp-
ose and motto, followed by a
hymn. The minutes were read
by Bonnie Dowson. Sandra
Taylor took up the offering and
it was dedicated by 1Luan Taylor
Mrs. Pat Taylor had charge of
the Study Book. A sing -song
was led by Mrs. Shirley Hill.
Afterwards Pienda Dowson closed
the meeting.

adian Bible Society will speak
at Varna and Goshen United
