Stanley couple
married 50 years
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jack-
son, Concession 2, Stanley
Township, celebrated their
golden wedding on Saturday,
August 26. The celebration
took place on the lawn of the
Jackson homestead, first occup-
ied by Stanley and his parents,
the late Mr. and Mrs. James
Jackson, over 60 years ago.
Stanley Jackson took over a
farm property near Canfield
Jct., Ontario in 1921. He met
his bride-to-be while working
that day with a threshing out-
fit, at the home of her parents
near Cayuga, Ontario. By
coincidence, both Stanley
and Marion had a birthday
that day and exactly one year
later, on September 9, 1922,
they were married. They lived
on the farm near Canfield for
15 years and had five children:
Keith of Moncton, N.B., Jim
of Hamilton and George, Edna
(Mrs. Jim Newcombe) and
Ruth, all of London.
They took over the Jackson
homestead on the 2nds of
Stanley in 1937, and have farm-
ed there quite successfully
ever since. The golden wedding
celebration was held early to
enable a larger attendance.
All the sons and daughters, their
husbands and wives, and all
]2 grandchildren were present.
Six of Stanley's seven brothers
and sisters survive, and four
of them were able to come,
Dr. and Mfrs. Clarence Jackson,
of Naples, Florida came the
farthest. Dr. W.J. Spence
Jackson of Toronto, Miss hazel
Jackson, of Washington, Pen-
nsylvania and Zetta, (Mrs. D.
Gardiner) of Ventnor N.J. also
came to offer congratulations
and renew old acquaintances in
the Clinton area.
The lawn party was pleasant
for all,as nearly all the friends
and relations were well acq-
uainted. Seventy-two names
appeared in the guest book at
the day's end. When asked for
comments, Stanley and Marion
merely smiled; they expect to
continue to farm for the for -
seeable future, taking each
day as it comes.

Silage is one of the many tools that
has helped to revolutionize the
livestock industry in Ontario. The
result is high-quality feed which can
be grown, stored and fed more
economically. Recent developments
such as preservatives have enhanced
the value of silage. On this farm,
a large horizontal silo is used to
hold the ensiled material.
