The "radio -phone" or "mag-
navox out of the air, " is be-
coming quite a novelty through-
out this area, and there are now
four sets installed that are
known to the general public.
Several hundred members of
the Evangelical Association of
Western Ontario held a success-
ful picnic at Springbank Park
yesterday, coming from such
places as Dashwood, Crediton,
and Zurich.
Last Friday night, the Zurich
Junior Ball Club shut -out the
Hensall Junior team, by a
5-0 score. O'Brien, the Zurich
twirler, pitched a masterful
game having to his credit a
no -hit, no -run effort. Cantelon,
the Hensall twirler was knocked
out of the box and replaced by
Nicol, but even this seemed to
make little difference in the
outcome of the game.
Cook Bros., in Hensall, last
week received a number of
Fordson tractors for sale, and
have already sold units to John
Eckstein, of Zurich, and Peter
McNaughton, east of Hensall.
Six cars of fertilizer have ar-
rived at the Hensall railway
station, for dealers, C. Jinks,

The borne of Mr. and Mrs.
Murdock Ross, Bayfield, was
burned to the ground last Wed-
nesday afternoon. The fire
was caused by the explosion of
a coal oil stove which took
place shortly after one o'clock.
Miss Catherine Merrier, who
has taken a short course on
Agriculture at Guelph, has ret-
urned and is starting her years
work as teacher of S. S. No. 12
Hay, at the 14th concession.
Mr. Daniel Smith, who spent
a few weeks with Zurich friends,
left last week for New Hamburg,
where he will visit with friends
prior to returning to his home
in Arkona.
Miss Geiger left on Tuesday
for Rye, Ontario, where she
has accepted the position of
teacher of the public schobi of
that place.
A goodly number of campers
this year have found a most
beautiful spot for relaxation
between Grand Bend and Bay-

After considerable effort by
the Huron County Federation of
Agriculture, the Huron Co -
Operative Medical Services is
now in operation. Under the
plan many organizations can
apply for insurance for their
group.
A radio inspector was in this
area last week, checking to see
if people had their radio licences
A number of people who were
without this proper certificate
were handed tickets for the
offence.
Hensall made a clean sweep
of it's playoff series with the
Clinton RCAF team, beating
them on Monday night by a
'7-6 score in the second game
of the best -of -three series.
Kipfer and Tudor shared the
pitching chore for Hensall,
Spending three weeks' vacation
at Grand Bend this summer are
Mr. and Mrs. Mart Kenny and
family. Mart Kenney is a pop-
ular name among leader of
Canada's number one musicians
in Canada, being the band, "
"The Western Gentlemen."
There are 980 old -age pen-
sioners in Huron County, at
August, 1947, and also 18 blind
pensioners. Twenty-eight more
applications were heard at the
recent meeting of the Huron
County Old Age Pension Board.

Mr. Michael Patrick O'Dwyer,
son of Mrs. Ida O'Dwyer and
the late Dr. P.J. O'Dwyer of
London, and formerly of Zurich,
we are pleased to announce

his Grade XIII.
Lorne Hodge has disposed of
his general store in Crediton,
the large store is on the main
corner and was built by the late
Christian Beaver, when it serv-
ed as grocery and furniture.
Mr. William Elliott, only son
of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Elliott,
Goshen Line north, and grand-
son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lamont
of town, won First Prize in
public speaking of Huron and
Bruce Counties, at Clinton,
and second prize. for the Prov-
ince of Ontario, at Mitchell,
Ontario, recently.
Tuesday night burglars invadec
the office of the O'Brien Prod-
uce and drilled the safe, but
fortunately no explosion occur-
red as far as can be made out.
Zurich Lumber Kings had
no trouble getting around Court -
right in the first round of the
playoffs, taking them two
straight by considerable margin.
The second round will be with
Walsingham, in the Lake Erie

Miss Virginia Deichert,
daughter of Peter Deichert,
Zurich, has returned from an
extensive trip by jet plane,
boat and bus, covering about
14, 000 miles. She visited such
countries as England, Scotland,
Wales, Norway, Sweden, Den-
mark, Germany, Switzerland,
France and Spain.
Mrs. Ida C. Munson, who
has been spending the past seven
weeks with her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Herb Neeb, has returned to her
home in Glencoe.
