Day.
On Tuesday morning, all
playground children were taken
to Huron Park for a Track and
Field Meet. The events includ-
ed running and standing broad
jump, 100 yard dash, ball
throw, sack race, and bean
bag toss, The over all points
champion was Zurich's own

awarded with a plaque. Other
outstanding athletes were Wendy
Meidinger, Bob Oesch and
Karen Thornton.
On Thursday of this week,
the playgorund children will
be introduced to the craft of
tie dying. The elastics, the
dye, and the T-shirts will be
provided for each child for
,25¢.
The party marking the end
of the playground will be held
on Thursday, August 24, from
10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Both
playgrounds, the parents of
the children, and anyone else
who wishes to come are wel-
come.
All those children who rec-
eived swimming awards will
be listed next week, when all
examinations are finished.
Congratulations are in order
to Joane McKinley, Robert
Smith, and Mary Ellen Steckle
who received awards for their
Water Safety Posters at the
Fun Day.
Two weeks ago, the Ladies
Softball team defeated the
girls 22-21. The outcome of
this game could have been
quite different because just as
the girls were pulling up their
socks, the game was called
because of rain.
Last Monday, the women
once again defeated the girls
team 28 to 15. When interest
began to lag, half way through
the game, Doreen Oesch dec-
ided to perk things up . When
the batter hit the ball, Doreen,
who was on second base,
PAGE 15
completely forgot about third
base and ran through the pitch-
ers mound and onto home.
However, Doreen made up for
her little error by being one of
the top scorers along with Diane
Clarke, Ruth Willett, Marg
Clarke, The top scorers for
the teen girls team were Liz
Bedard and Brenda Wilder.
As next week will be the
last game, it should prove to
be one of the best games this
season.
