Zurich Midgets m el lose
tiring past week's ctivity

Last Wednesday night the
Zurich Midgets won a very
close battle as they edged out
Mitchell by a 5-4 margin.
In the only scoring of the first
period Gerald Weido scored his
first of two goals on a pass from
Pat Bedard, to give Zurich
a 1-0 lead going into the second
The lead was short-lived in
the second period when Doug
Eliggsen scored on a lone effort
to put Mitchell right back in
the game. The second period
ended in a 1-1 tie with neither
team being able to come up
with the go-ahead goal.
Pat Bedard finally put Zurich
out front 2-1 when he knocked
in a pass off the sticks of Gerald
Weido and John Mommersteeg.
Minutes later Mitchell came
right back with a goal by Tom
Aikens to again tie the game
at 2-2.
Mitchell went ahead 3-2 on
a goal by John Leslie at the 5.35
;nark. Twelve seconds later
Pat Bedard and Gerald Weido
combined efforts to put Zurich
backin the game. One minute
after that Weido scored his sec-
ond goal to put them in front
4- 3.
Minutes later John Leslie
came back with another goal for
Mitchell to tie the game at 4-4.
The winning goal came at the
13.47 mark of the period when
Pat Bedard scored his third
goal with Gerald Weido and
John Mommersteeg drawing
assists.
There were only three minor
penalties called with Zurich
drawing one and Mitchell two.
GODERICH-I 6 - ZURICH 2
On Sunday afternoon the
Zurich Midgets faced defeat
for the second time this year as
they were downed 6-2 by God-
erich.
The game was very close until
the final period when Zurich
seemed to fall apart allowing
their opponents to score four
goals.
Zurich took a 1-0 lead early
in the first period on a goal by
John Mommersteeg, which was
assisted by Steve Durand. Min-
utes later Goderich came right
back with their first goal which
was accounted for by Terry Mal -
lot,
Again in the second period
Zurich took the lead on a goal
by John Mommersteeg, which
was a lone effort. Minutes later,
however, Goderich again tied the
score with Pat Kelly being the
marksman, which made the
score 2-2.
In the final stanza Zurich
fell apart allowing Goderich to
outscore them 4-0. Goderich
went ahead at the 2,43 mark
on a goal by John Schram. Mid-
way through the period Don
Duncan put Goderich ahead 4-2.
Two more single goals by Tim
1\'1cAstocke and Joe Denonune
proved to be the winners in
the 6-2 victory.
There were 18 minor penalties
called with Goderich drawing
twelve and Zurich only six.

Zurich Bantams
lose to Hensall

On Monday night the Zurich
Bantams played a very close
game until the final period,
when they fell apart and were
clowned 10-5 by a tough Ilensall
team,
Zurich opened the scoring in
the first period at the 2:14 mark
when Barry Mess took a pass
from Derek O'Brien to put them
ahead 1-0. Midway through the
period, however, John Charrette
carie up with the tying goal.
Another goal by Sandy Ingram
put the Hensall crew in front
2-1.
With less than a minute to
play in the period, Derek O'Brier
tipped in a pass off the sticks
of Steven Bedour and Barry 'less
to tie the game at 2-2.
A goal by Hess early in the
middle stanza put Zurich in
front 3-2 but the lead was short-
lived as Mike Veal again tied
the game minutes later. Mid-
way through the period Wayne
Clarke and Fred biominerstee g
combined efforts to score the
go-ahead goal again. Before the
period finalized, Jamie Caldwell
scored on a play from Steve
Knight to leave the game at a
.1-4 tie.
In the final period Zurich fell
apart allowing their opponents
to outscore them 5-1, Jan l\Iac-
Millan and Terry MacDonald
put I lensall ahead 6-4 before
Zurich found range for their last
goal, which was scored by
Steven Redact". Mike Veal rallied
for two more goals while singles
went to Ian MacMillan and
Perry Mattson, to give Ilensall
their convincing victory.
Each team drew one minor
penalty.

Zurich Peewee

The Zurich Pee Wees cause
up with their first victory last
Saturday afternoon when they
travelled to Seaford' and handed
Dublin a 9-0 shut -out.
The game was only 30 sec-
onds olcl when Jeff O'Brien bang-
ed in the first goal, off the stick
of Jim Oesch. At the midway
mark of the period Oesch ac-
counted for the goal while Garry
Love drew an assist, Zurich went
ahead 3-0 on a goal by Danny
Laporte.
Doug Corriveau and Paul
Haggitt each rallied for one
goal before the first period end-
ed to give Zurich a convincing
5-0 lead at the end of one ses-
sion.
In the second period things
started alowing down with Dan-
ny Laporte and Jim Oesch each
scoring a goal, to push them
ahead 7-0,
Confident of a victory by the
final period, Jim Oesch and
Paul Ilaggitt added two more
singles to assure them of their
win.
Goderich edges
Zurich Bantams

Last Saturday night the Zurich
Bantams travelled to Goderich
and were downed 3-1 in a very
closely played game.
Although Goderich was lead-
ing on the scoreboard for the
first two periods, Zurich played
a very strong game with the
breaks not falling into place.
Goderich tool< a 1-0 lead in
the first period on a goal by Doug
Marshall. Although Zurich
played very strong hockey
throughout the remainder of the
period they were unable to come
up with the tying goal.
Goderich jumped into a 2-0
lead in the second period scoring
with a pian advantage. The
Goclericli marksman was Brian
Yenan,
It was the 13.12 mark of the
final period when Zurich narrow-
ed their opponents lead to one
goal, when Derek O'Brien scored
on a goal set up by Barry Bess.
With Zurich dominating the
play, Goderich carie up with
an insurance goal with little
time remaining in the game.
Grant Shelton scored the goal
that gave Goderich their 3-1
victory.

ulance attendants employed by
the Westlake Service who have

game on a lone goal_ effort by
Jeff O'Brien. At the midway
mark Mike Avery came back
with a safety goal for Mitchell
and the goal that gave them a
4-2 victory.
There were nine penalties
called with Zurich drawing
five while the visitors drew four.
