Huron -Perth Catholic School Board
Hire Teachers For Fall Term

Mrs. Bernadette Perron, of
Zurich, who has been acting prin.
cipal, was appointed principal
at Ste. Marie School at St.
Joseph, effective September 1,
1971, was reported by John
Vintar, Superintendent of Educ-
ation at a meeting at Seaforth
on Monday.

For Girl Guides
The Zurich Women's Institute
met in the Township Hall on
Monday evening, June 7, with
20 members present. Mrs. 0.
Schwartzentruber and Mrs. W.
Neeb were in charge of the prog-
ram on "Home Economics. "
Mus. Ward Neeb read from
"Bill Smiley's column on "June"
and also another poem "Ode to
Quilts. " Mrs. William Smith
conducted a garden vegetable
contest.
Mrs. 0. Schwartzentruber
gave a paper and many useful
hints on sewing with knits and
crimplene materials.
A Dutch auction was held on
two angel food cakes with the
proceeds going to the Girl Guides
,Mrs. Victor Dinnin and Mrs.
Clare Merrier were the winners.
Mrs. Harold Thiel reported
$272. was raised for the Red
Cross Society from the canvas
by the Women's Institute.
It was decided that the quilt
made by the members during
the winter would be sold at the
Zurich Bean Festival, rather
than by a draw on sale of tickets.
Suggestions were given for a bus
trip in early fall.
Mrs. Frank Kane, Mrs. Orland
Schwartzentruber and Mrs. Len
Prang were appointed to look
after five items to be displayed
at the Fall Fair.
School in Goderich was also
reported by Mr. Vintar, He
replaces Brian Morrissey of
Goderich who has resigned to
take another position.
At the present time Mr. Cook
is a principal with the Dufferin-
Peel County Roman Catholic
Separate School Board, He is
a native of the Kinkora area and
is married to the former Helen
Bruxer, of Dublin.
Mr. Vintar reported that a
total of 26 appointments have
been made for 1971-72 to replace
staff who are leaving, the add-
ition of three itinerant special
education teachers and one itin-
erate music teacher and three
additional staff --two for St.
Michael's School in Stratford
and one for Precious Blood School
in Exeter,
In his report to the board Mr.
Vintar said that field days were
being held at the various schools.
Upcoming on June 16 are field
days in Goderich, Kingsbridge
Wingham, Clinton at CFB Base,
Dublin, St. Columban and Sea -
forth. On June 24 St. Michael's
in Stratford will hold field
events at Northwestern Secondary
School and on June 25 Stratford
junior schools will meet at North-
western.
Mr. Vintar was authorized to
write to the premier of Ontario
and to his minister of Education
concerning the lack of a decis-
ion being made on extending
support to the catholic schools
to the completion of Grade 13.
Trustee James Morris for the
Personnel Committee in the
absence of the chairman, Ted
Geoffrey, reported that salary
negotiations with the teachers
was continuing satisfactory. He
said the board has offered a prop-
osal to the teachers which is
under consideration.
Trustee John McCann of Ailsa
Craig, chairman of the Building
and property committee reported
the tender of Goderich Electric
for $250 was accepted for the
installation of lighting fixtures
in the gym at Kingsbridge

awarded to Towland Construction
of London for $500.
Tr ustee James Morris again
speaking for the personnel
committee reported Frank Fox
custodian at St. Aloysius School
in Stratford will be transferred
to St. Michael's School to re-
place William Landreth who is
retiring. Mr. Morris said that
Arthur Smith of Mowat Street
in Stratofrd was hired to replace
Frank Fox at St. Aloysius at the
annual salary to be that as rat-
ified by the Board and the com-
mittee of custodians. Mr. Smith
will continence his duties June 14
while Mr. Landreth will retire
at the end of June.
The two religious consultants
for the board, Miss Frances Con-
way and Sister. Bernadette, out-
lined the religious training in
the schools when they attend the
meeting to give the board mem-
bers a report.

Conway described the Canadian
•Catechism as to its origin and
how it is constantly updated.
They explained the philosophy
and psychology of the program
and the activities.
