Easter Thank -offering meeting
of the W.M.S. was held on
Monday evening, April 5, at
Carmel Presbyterian church.
President Mrs. R.A. Orr open-
ed the meeting with an Easter
poem and prayer, and welcomed
the guests from Brucefield, Chis-
elhurst, Cromarty, Kippen and
Arnold Circle and Horne Helpers.
Mrs. Malcolm Dougal and. Mrs..
Pearl Love conducted the devot-
ion and program.
The Bayfield Trio and piano
accompanist, consisting of Mrs.
Snider, Mrs. Ann Chapman,
Miss Louise Talbot and Miss
Bigelow, who sang several Easter
hymns and Scripture readings,
and also showed films on "Land
of Egypt, " which was taken by
one of the ladies while touring
the holy land. They also have
a record made which is called
"The Bayfield Trio, "
Mrs. Harry Snell thanked the
ladies for their wonderful cont-
ribution to the evening program
and to all who assisted in any
way. A social hour was spent
and the delicious lunch was
served.

Farm Union Local Elect New Slate
Of Officials At Annual Meeting
Local 317 of the National Farm
Union held their annual meeting
at the Zurich Community Centre
on Friday evening, April 2,
with about 150 members and
guests present, to enjoy a turkey
dinner.
Guest speaker for the meeting
was Dr. Finlay Stewart, of St.
Andrews Presbyterian Church,
Kitchener. Dr. Stewart gave
some interesting and amusing
stories of his past experiences.
The theme of his speech was,
"Scoundrels of our Society who
hide behind the Bill of Rights.':
Chairman for the meeting
was Baxter Ramsay, of Bright,
District Directors of the Nation-
al Farm Union. He outlined some
of the accomplishments of local
317 in the past year. He stressed
the importance of choosing res-
ponsible leadership in the elect-
ion of officers which followed.
The new executive is as fol-
lows: president, John Laporte,
R. R. 2, Zurich; vice-president,
Randy Collins, R, R.1, Varna;

Achievement Day

The fifth meeting of the Sew
N So's met at the home of Mrs.
Oke on March 31, at 7:30 p.m.
All members answered the roll
call which was "one thing that
we learned from preparing and
marking and cutting our material
We were informed that our
Achievement Day will be held
May 8 at South Huron District
High School. While talking about
Achievement Day, we talked
about our skit that we have to
perform.
We also went ahead and did
the discussions for meeting five,
six, and seven. They are fitting
the garment and working with
knitted fabrics.

Products Marketing Bill, which
is presently under study by the
agriculture committee of the
federal government.
Also speaking briefly was
Alex Fraser, of Embro, Junior
Director of the NFU, and Mrs.
Maxine Miller, R,R.1, Dashwood
lady director of the N.F.U.
News of Varna and District
The United Church Women
held their Easter meeting last
Wednesday evening with twenty-
six members present. Group two
had charge of devotions with
Mrs. W. Webster leading, who
also gave the Meditation. Sev-
eral poems were given with an
Easter thought. Mrs. M. Mor-
rison took up the offering and it
was dedicated by Mrs. Sherlock
Keyes. The invitation to go to
Kippen UCW meeting on April
8, was accepted. Two films on
cancer were shown. There were
eighty-four calls made to sick
and shut-ins. The meeting was
closed by Mrs. Watson Webster
and group one served lunch.

The Explorer Group met on
Tuesday evening with Cathy
Taylor leading. The Explorer
Purpose and Motto was recited.
The scripture lesson was given
by Sylvia Wilson, prayer by
Marie Ann Kalbfleisch. Roll
Call was answered by naming
a favourite flower. The offering
was taken up by Miss Brenda
Dowson and dedicated by Ann
Marie Heard. The financial
report was read by Miss Tanis
Chuter. The Study book was led
by Mrs. Barry Taylor and Mrs.
Eric Chuter had charge of rec-
reation. Cathy Taylor closed the
meeting.
