LADIES AID The February meeting of Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid was held Wednesday, February 17, with group two and Mrs. Ernest Koeh- ler convenor in charge of devot- ' ions and lunch. Pastor Steinman took as the topic, "Speak but also Listen." This was a question and answer period using the Bible as reference Rick Hayter played two piano solos. President Mrs. James Hayter presided for the business. The Family Night supper planned for February 28 will start at 6:30 p. m. The visiting committee reported fifteen calls. The Altar Guild is Mrs. Albert Miller and Mrs. Marie Restemayer. The L. W. M, L, is holding a Prayer Service Monday March 29 with the theme. "Raised to sit togeth- er in Heavenly Places." All ladies of the congregation are urged to attend. Mrs. Hayter requested good used clothing for the Children's Aid, especially for children. She also gave out material for pyjamas. Mrs. Charles Marten cond- ucted closing devotions. Members of Fred Weiberg's family gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Willert Monday evening in honor of his 80th birthday, Saturday, Feb- ruary 27. Present for the occasion were Mr. and MTs. Adolph Keller, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Restemayer, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rader, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Willert, Zurich, and Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Devine. The evening was spent visiting and playing crokinole. WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Members of Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Ford's family gathered at Blackbush school, Sunday, February 21, to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary which was February 17. Hubert Miller and family. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN Calvary United Church Wom- en held their meeting Tuesday afternoon February 16. President, Mrs. Don Gaiser, opened the business by reading a Bible verse. It was decided to participate in the United Nations Associat- ion, " A penny a day for peace project." Mrs. Don Gaiser, Mrs. Gordon Bender, Mrs. Ebel). Weigand and Mrs. E, R, Guenther went by bus to the Huron -Perth Annual Presby- tery Meeting at Mitchell Wed- nesday, February 17. The U.C. W. will present a program at the Blue Water Rest Horne in March. Mrs. Eben Weigand was chair - lady for the devotional part of the program, opening it with a prayer and scripture reading by Mrs. Stuart Wolfe. Mrs. Weigand gave the Study Book topic on Inner American Relations. She brought the meeting to a close with prayer. Hensall Loses First Game in Zurich Rec League Play; Two Close Games (by Doug Turkheim) MATES 5 - HENSALL 2 Last Thursday night the Hen- sall Generals lost their first game of the season as they were downed 5-2 by the Mates, who are in bottom place. The Mates outscored Hensall 4-1 in the first period. Ken Smale gave Hensall a 1-0 lead but the Mates came right back with four goals to give them the lead. Larry Hess scored twice while Eric Smale and Richard Walker added two more. There was no scoring in the second period. A goal by Charles Schwalm narrowed the Mates lead to 4-2 but Larry Hess came back with his third goal to give the Mates their victory FARMER'S U. 8 - SABRES 6 In the other game in Rec League play Thursday night the Farmer's Union downed the Sabres 8-6. Ken Durand scored the lone goal for the Sabres in the first period. Single goals by Larry Merner John Gascho and Jack Coleman gave the Farmer's Union a 6-1 lead at the end of two periods. Although the Sabres came back and outscored the Farmer's Union 5-2 in the final period, it wasn't enough to give them a victory. Sabre goal scorers were Bill Wagner with two and singles by Ken Clarke, Garry Hess and Paul Corriveau. Jack Coleman and Ray Weido scored third per- iod goals for the Farmer's Union. BLUEWATER 9 - FLYERS 8 On Sunday night the second place Bluewater team downed the Flyers by a deciding 9-8 margin. The Bluewater took a 4-3 lead at the end of the first per- iod on two goals by Don O'Brien and one each by Ron Overholt and Don Geiger. Flyer goal scorers were Gord Hay, Doug Stade and Tim Decker with singles. In the second period the Blue - water again outscored the Flyers. Don O'Brien and Jim Grainger scored the Bluewater goals. Tim Decker scored the lone Flyer goal. The Flyers cane back to out- score the Bluewater 4-3 in the final period. Two goals by George Suplat and singles by Richard Thiel and Tim Decker made up the scoring for the Flyers.
