His Worship Mayor Harry Wor-
sell brought greetings from_ the
town of Goderich with "mixed
feelings" saying he was pleased
and proud to represent the town
of Goderich as Mayor but stating
he was sorry to see an end to
his association at the county
level.
Outgoing Warden Roy Westcott,
of Usborne Township drew att-
ention to the presence of the new
county councillors, especially
Gerry Ginn whose father served
on county council from 1945 to
1948. Ginn's grandfather also
sat on county council from 1924
to 1925.
The striking committee was
appointed and includes the new
warden, Clarence Boyle, Hugh
Flynn, Joe Hoffman and Harold
Wylds.

Obituary
MISS M.A. SMILLIE
Miss Margaret A. Smillie, of
Toronto passed away Friday morn
ing at the Trafford House Nurs-
ing Home, at the age of 95
years. The daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Smillie, she
was born and raised on the
Smillie homestead, one and a
quarter mile north of Hensall.
She taught school for many
years in Hay Township, Hailey -
bury and in Toronto.
She leaves one sister, Dr.
Jennie Robertson, Toronto, one
brother, Dr. A . E. Smillie,
Niagara Falls, several nieces
and nephews. She was predece-
ased by two sisters and two
brothers, (Mary), Mrs. John
Elder, Hensall; Miss Emmaline
Smillie, Toronto, and a former
missionary in India; James
Smillie, Hensall, Rev. Ben
Smillie, missionary in India.
Funeral service and committal
was held Monday in the Miles
funeral home, St. Claire Aven-
ue, Toronto. She was laid to
rest in the Mausoleum at Hen-
sall cemetery.

UNITED CHURCII WOMEN
The January meeting of Cal-
vary 'United Church Women was
held Tuesday, January 12, with
the president, Mrs. Don Gaiser
opening the meeting with a pray-
er. A donation was made to the
Bible Society. The annual meet-
ing will be held January 18, with
Mrs. R. Weber's group in charge.
The executive was in charge
of the program with Mrs. Eben
Weigand chairlady. She opened
the meeting with a short read-
ing. She also read the scripture
and Mrs. Syd Neeb led in pray-
er. Mrs. Gordon Bender read
two short poems, "Diaries" and
"Facing the New Year."
Rev Bruce Guy gave a summar}
of the past year and what could
be looked forward to in the new
year ahead. Miss Judy Guy spoke
on her experiences at Toc Alpha
which she attended recently.
LADIES AID
The regular meeting of the
Ladies Aid of Zion Lutheran
church was held Wednesday,
January 13 with group II and
Mrs. V.L. Becker convenor in
charge of devotions and lunch.
Mrs. James Hayter, president
dealt with the business. Twenty-
four shut-in boxes were distrib-
uted at Christmas. Many cards
of thanks and donations were
received. New books are in the
library and Mrs. Harry Hayter,
librarian had some on display.
The Aid will entertain at the
Bluewater Rest Home in June.
A bake sale will be held in the
summer. Suggestions for topics
are to be handed to the pastor.
The secretary is to write to
Act Fast again. The Altar Guild
is Mrs. Charles Marten and Mrs.
V.L. Becker.
Pastor Earl Steinman took as
the topic, Capital Punishment,
with the bible as reference. A
family night is planned for Feb -

CHOIR MEETS
The choir of Zion Lutheran
church held the annual meeting
and social evening at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Stade,
Thursday, January 14. All offic-
ers were returned, Mrs. Marie
Resternayer was presented a
small gift in token of her work
with the choir. The evening
was then spent playing Court
Whist, with winners, Mrs. Alb-
ert Miller and Ernest Miller;
low, Miss Helen Nadiger and
Albert Miller. The hostess serv-
ed lunch.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rader
and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader•
and family spent Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rader and
family.
Mrs. Leeland Restemayer and
Alphonse Denomme, patients
at St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
are expected home.

ier and family, of London were
Sunday visitors at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Corriveau.

Mrs. Juliet Denomme, of
Zurich spent a couple of days
last week at the home of her
daughter and her family, Mr.
and Mrs. Daryl Rau.
Mr, and Mrs. Dennis Char-
rette were visited over the
weekend by Mr. and Mrs. Philip
Charrette and family , of Kings-
ville and Paul Charrette, of
Waterloo. They were joined
Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. Tony
Charrette and family, of Hen-
sall.
Mrs. Emma Rowland, of
Parkhill spent Sunday visiting
her grand -daughter Mr. and
Mrs. Peter Jeffrey.
Last Thursday was a happy
one at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Peter Jeffrey when their
son Kevin who has been ill since
August was allowed to walk for
the first time since then.
Bonnie Regier is home from
London for a few days this week.
She is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Clem Regier.
Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Corriveau
and son, of London spent the
weekend at the home of Mr.
and Mrs, Lucienne Corriveau.

MRS. MARGARET ANN PIERCE
Mrs. Margaret Ann Pierce,
91, widow of the late James
Anthony Pierce, who died 11
years ago, passed away at the
home of her cousin, Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Irwin, in Dashwood
with whom she had made her
home for five years. She was
formerly from Reston, Manitoba,
and Lucknow. She is survived
by one son, Clifford, and two
grandchildren, Edmonton. The
body rested at the T. Harry Hof-
fman funeral home where the
service was conducted by Rev.
Bruce Guy with temporary ent-
ombment in Exeter cemetery
Mausoleum with burial later in
Greenhill cemetery, Lucknow.
