The circle, emblematic, of perfection, the family, happiness, and the continuity of life, and a diamond, the internationally -recognized warning of danger, 'form the matrix and are always constant. For W,C,B. use, these contain the cruciform, age-old symbol of man. For use by one of the accident prevention associations, the matrix contains the association's own symbol. The matrix will also contain any of a large number of safety messages such as reminders to wear particular types of safety equipment. Farm Union Official Not Satisfied With Government Tax Rebate National Farmers' Union Vice president, Walter Miller, said last week that the NFU has no intention of recommending that farmers accept the 25% rebate on municipal taxes, as offered by the Ontario government in reply to farmers' semands for a complete revision of the system used in raising money for educ- ational purposes. He said a meeting of Ontario NFU representatives has been arranged with the Hon. Darcy. McKeough, Minister of Munic- ipal Affairs, and Hon. William Davis, Minister of Education, in an attempt to develop a process of negotiations to bring about an end to this unjust system of taxation. "You don't cure a cancer by cutting part of it away. " he remarked, referring to the stop- gap rebate, or as many farmers have already dubbed it, " elect- ion bait. " Mr. Miller said the initial decision to withhold taxes was started over a year ago by NFU members in southwestern Ontario which, during the winter months became province wide and was fully endorsed by a meeting of some 1600 members last June. He said the recent retreat of OFA, who came into the prog- ram after it was launched and abandoned it before many taxes were due, causes farmers to question whether it was embraced as a concern for farmers or simpl) as a tool for OFA publicity. Mr. Miller said NFU farmers made the decision to withhold taxes, and that decision will prevail, at least until a Regional Meeting scheduled for November 9 and 10,' when members will be able to evaluate government intentions toward correcting a tax system they know cannot be justified. Students Postpone Ottawa Trip Students of South Huron Dist- rict High School have postponed a planned visit to Ottawa until things cool down. The students were to have been in the capital last Friday and for the weekend but post- poned the trip because of anxiety of some parents. They were concerned about the presence of heavily -armed military men around public build, ings and embassies and guarding members of the cabinet, party leaders and other prominent public individuals, said Robert McKinley (PC -Huron) who was to have been their host at the Parliament buildings. PAGE NINE ATTEND MITCHELL MEETrNG A car load of members from the official board of Emmanuel Church attended a meeting in Mitchell, addressed by Rev. Dr. E.E. Long, Secretary of the Gen- eral Council of the United Church Dr. Long was speaking to the Huron -Perth Presbytery officials on the outreach and support of missions at home and abroad. He reported that over two million dollars had been raised for development and relief in various parts of the world through the "One Day's Pay" program over the past two years. "Live Love" support ,of indiv- idual mission projects was having popular appeal among congregat- ions and groups. The local United' Church has undertaken partial support of Robert Witmer, of Goderich, doing missionary serv- ice in Japan under this program.
