of gravel at Siliery's pit in Usbornt

Obituary
MRS. ALFRED MELICI(
A resident of Zurich for most
of her life, Mrs, Alfred Melick
passed away in South Huron Hosp-
ital, Exeter, on Sunday, July 12,
in her '19th year. Her husband
pre -deceased her some years ago.
The former Pearl Melinda Pfile,
she was barn on May 27, 1892, a
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Benjamin Pfile.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs.
Melizza Geiger, R,R.2, Zurich;
Mrs, Clara Jacobe, R,R,1, Zur-
ich; one brother, Urban Pfile, of
Zurich; three step -daughters,
Mrs. Lennis (Lila) Calfas, Kitch-
ener; Mrs. Ed (Ortha) Geiger,
Pigeon, Michigan, and Mrs. Mor-
ris (Gladys) Neil, of Detroit, Mich•
igan; one step -son, Gladwin Mel -
ick, of Goderich.
The body rested at the Westlake
funeral home, Zurich, where the
funeral service took place on
Wednesday afternoon, July 15, at
2 p.m. Interment was made in
Emmanuel United Church cemet-
ery, Bronson Line. Rev. J. W
Huether officiated.

The annual McArthur Reunion
was held at Riverview Park, Ex-
eter, Sunday, July 12, with a
good attendance present. Joan
Elliott of Zurich directed a sports
program.

reunion to be held at the same

Zurich Midgets Lose Two Games to
Powerful Dadhwood Squad in Hardball
During the past week of play
the Zurich Midget Hardball entry
has been downed by Dashwood in
two games, in which Zurich's
early lead became defeat.
DASHWOOD 10 - ZURICH 6
On Monday night Zurich jump-
ed into an early 2-0 lead on hits
by Pat and Bill Bedard, but be-
fore the inning ended Dashwood
rallied for five runs, In the sec-
ond inning Dashwood collected
two runs to take a comfortable
7-2 lead. Things stayed pretty
tight for the next three innings
with neither team being able to
knock in any runs.
In the fifth inning Zurich start-
ed a rally but was short with the
bases being left loaded and only
collecting one run. The locals
came on strong in the sixth in-
ning and rallied for three runs,
to shorten the margin to 7-6,
Zurich then fell apart and allow-
ed Dashwood to knock in three
runs to end the scoring at 10-6.
John Mommersteeg started the
pitching chores for Zurich but
was relieved by Bill Bedard before
the first inning ended, who in
turn was relieved by Garry Iless
in the sixth inning. Jim Guenther,
Brain Bestard and Pete Kleinstiver
shared pitching chores for Dash-
wood.
Nearly two million Canadians

Again Zurich managed to hold
off their opponents for three in-
nings before they fell apart, as
they took a 2-0 lead in the first
inning and allowed Dashwood
only one run. In the second in-
ning Zurich banged in another
run to take a 3-1 lead.
The third inning proved to be
the turning point as Dashwood
knocked in five runs holding Zur-
ich to a stand -still. In the next
inning Dashwood rallied for sev-
en runs to take a commanding
13-3 lead.
In the final inning each team
managed to bring in two runs to
end the short five inning contest
at 15-5.
Bill Bedard and Garry Hess
shared pitching chores while Brian
Bestard went the full game for
Dashwood.
