Hensall Council Takes Steps To
Close Street Beside Arena
Hensall Council met briefly
last Monday night to take care
of a few items of business left
over from the regular meeting
the week bef re.
Tenders will be called to ren-
ovate the fire hall so it can ac-
commodate the new firs engine
when it arrives later this summer.
Members also decided to start
the necessary action to close
the street which runs along side
of the arena. This will still
leave two accesses to the corn-
munity park.
Councillor Paul Neilands start-
ed the discussion of closing the
street when he said, "If there is
to be a summer program for
children in the park that road
could create a danger to the
youngsters playing there."
There was some discussion abou
unloading garbage in the dump
on days when it is not open.
Apparently, several persons
have requested the caretaker to
open the dump to dispose of gar-
bage at various tines.
Councillors felt this was not a
good practise and reeve Oliver

Jaques said, "People are not
going to come the days the dump
is open if they knowthey can
borrow the key any time."
It was decided the key to the
dump would not be given out to
anyone, and that garbage could
not be dumped on days not des-
ignated. except in emergencies
at which time Ernie Davis or a
member of council would have
to unlock the gate and see that
the garbage was unloaded at the
proper place.
Department of Agriculture Offers
Interesting Course on Farre Mechanics
To keep a farm operating at
top efficiency, the machinery
used must be in good working
order.
Professor J.R. Scott, School of
Engineering, University of Gue-
lph, feels that automotive me-
chanics can no longer adequately
handle the maintenance of farm
machinery. As the equipment
becomes more complex, spec-
ially trained farm mechanics
are required to service combines,
tractors and other machines.
To fill this need, the School
of Engineering is offering, for
the third year, an intensive
course designed to train mech-
anics in Maintenance of farm
machinery. The course, which
begins in September 1970, ex-
tends over 20 months and opens
with four months in the class-
room.
The students spend the next
12 months in the repair shops
of dealers throughout the prov-
ince, obtaining practical exper-
ience. They return to Guelph
for an additional four months in
the classroom before graduating.
The course is supported by the

Training in welding, hydraulic
systems, the principles of eng-

ices provides good grounding for
the students in their chosen work.
Those interested in the course
should contact their local farm
machinery dealer, or the School
of Engineering, University of
Guelph, for information.
