WITH
More Thermostats
Needed in Homes
Controlling the temperature
of your entire house with only
one thermostat is like using a
cabin cruiser to cross a pond.
You'll get there, but at an ex-
ceedingly high price.
It isn't necessary to keep all
the rooms in the house at the
same temperature all day long.
According to the C 1 radian Ey-
dronics Council, area oi'
the house 1i: - ieeds and
should be treatcu arately.
The bedrooms, for example,
don't require as much heat as
the living area during the day.
HIavin only one thermostat to
control the heat is wasteful, says
the Council, and uncomfortable.

REST HOME

is to divide the home into sep-
arate heating "zones" and have
each zone controlled by its own
thermostat. When you leave the
bedrooms in the imornin3, lower
the temperature on the aedrooni
zone thermostat. On the other
hand, when you retire for the
night, lower the setting on the
thermostat in the living room.
Installing zone controls in
homes with hydronic (modern
hot' water) heating is fairly sim-
ple for a qualified heating con-
tractor, and by using zone valves
it can be done more inexpensiv-
ely. The saving in lower fuel
bills will make up the cost.
