FEBRUARY 1920
A result of the recent storm
from the east, the fisherman
of Lake Huron sustained great
loss to their nets going away.
The loss is estimated at $500.
Moses Geiger left on
Wednesday morning for
Pigeon, Michigan, to attend
the funeral of the late John
Geiger.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hey
are moving to London this
week, were they will take
up residence.
Ward Fritz, of Kitchener,
returned to his home here last
Wednesday'
not enjoying
the best of health, but he
is improving nicely.
Ed Snell has purchased
from the estate of the late
F. Hess, the dwelling property
now occupied by N.E. Dahmn.
Possession will be given in the
spring.
An interesting game of
hockey was played last Thurs-
day evening between Dashwood
and the Bearcats, one on the
local twon teams. Some
very promising plays were
made, but the Bearcats won
by a small margin. For Zurich
goalie was T. L. Wurm;
defence, C. Hoffman, H. Hess;
forwards, O. Davis, E. Oesch,
G. Koehler. The umpire
was L. W. Hoffman.
40 Years Ago
FEBRUARY 1930
A business deal of some
importance was transacted in
Zurich last Friday, when the
local skating rink changed
hands twice in the same day.
The first deal being Mr.
Koehler and Mr. Lee O'Brien
dealt a car in exchange for
the property, and then Mr.
Ferdinand Haberer purchased
the rink property from Mr.
G. Koehler.
Miss Lenora 13aberer enter-
tained a number of her girl
friends to a birthday party
on February 10.
Mr. N.A. Cantin of St.
Joseph and Wellington Johnston
of town are installing a hot
water heating plant in the
home of Mr. Jacob Deichert
at present.
Mr. George Deichert has
placed an order with Mr. E.

electric controlled Kelvinator
refridgerator. This is the
first of its size in town and we
trust that Mr. Deichert will

FEBRUARY 1945
Miss Nola Krueger of town
spent the week -end in Lucan ,
where she visited with the Dagg
family, formerly of Zurich,
Rev. Father Lucier visited
at his home in Wallaceburg
for the weekend. Father
Flynn, of London, took charge
of the services on Sunday
in St. Boniface Church.
At the Liberal executive
meeting of South -Huron
and Perth -Huron held at
Hensall last Wednesday,
the important position of
president was given to Albert
J. Kalbfleisch of Zurich.
The Kalbfleisch Mills are shut
down for a few days as Ivan
Kalbfleisch is away purchasing
some new equipment.
Eva Catherine, Daughter of
Rev. and Mrs. Sol, Baechler,
and Clarence, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Chris. Gascho, all of the
Bronson Line, were united
in marriage by the Rev. S.M.
Peachey, at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Seth Amanns.

FEBRUARY 1955
Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Willert
of Hensall were taken by
surprize on Thursday evening,
February 10, when their
children and grandchildren
and friends assembled at
their home on the occasion
to celebrate their 40th wedding
anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Yungblut
have returned from their
pleasant visit to different
parts of the south. They were
accoinpained by Mr. and Mrs.
Len Haist of Fraser, Michigan.
Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Stade.
of town entertained several
of their friends last Wednesday
evening, it being their 40th
wedding anniversary on
Thursday, February 10.
Miss Kathleen Hess, R, N. , of
London, spent several days at
her home here.

at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Zurich Institute
Hear of Retarded
The afternoon February meet-
ing of the Zurich Women's
Institute was well attended.
Two guests from the Blue Water
Rest Home enjoyed the meeting
and fellowship, Mrs. N. Geig-
er conducted the meeting and -
read the poem, "The House by
the side of the road."
Ivan Sharrow, president of
the Association of Mentally
Retarded, in South Huron,
spoke. He urged the necessity
that the public be educated
to accept the slow child,
(retarded). He added that the
Huron Park school for retarded
is ideal, they have the com-
panionship with normal
children.
It is the association's aiin to
have workshops located in.the
county for the retarded adults
to work after they are finished
with school. Interesting
questions were capably answered
by Mr. Sharrow.
Mrs. D. Geiger read a bio-
graphy of the late Dr. Campbell.
He had taught school, then
attended medical school. He
was Zurich's doctor for many
years.
Mrs. Leonard Prang dem-
onstrated how to make a puff
quilt, utilizing worn out nylon
stockings.
Mrs. Leonard Erb displayed
a lovely liquid embroidery
quilt. Institute members accept-
ed Mrs. Erb's offer to prepare
a similar quilt, which the
members want to quilt in March,
along with a members quilt.
A motion carried to donate
$25. to the Association for
Mentally Retarded.
Bert I<lopp to discuss "Farm
Marketing Abroad." Mr.
Delbert Geiger led the dis-
cussion.
10 Years Ago
FEBRUARY 1960
On Wednesday, February 10,
four weeks after he was injured
when a tree fell on him, Fred
Charles Regier, a popular
Zurich resident, passed away
in St. Joseph's Hospital, London.
Mary Bannister, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bannister,
Zurich, was chosen "Queen
of the Carnival" at the annual
Valentines Carnival in Zurich.
Billie, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Hoffman, underwent
an appendicitis operation
last Friday evening. He
had played on the hockey
team the previous night.
Father Richard Bedard,
Toronto, spent a few days
with members of his family
in Zurich, also attending
the funeral of the late Fred
Regier.
Attending the funeral of the
late Mrs. Dorothy Johnston
were: Dr. Archie Mac,Kinnon,
Galt; Hugh MacKinnon, London;
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Truemner,
Toronto; and Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Horman, Woodstock.
