Zurich Citizens News, 1969-08-14, Page 11969 :1. If ch .m, 1 • THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 1969 There has been plentyof action in the Zurich MAA sofball league the past month, Some score sheets have been turned in but we have been unable to write the games up because each team is turning their score sheet in separately, the date, opposit- ion, or for that natter, the team the sheet belongs to seldom is niarked on the sheet. Score sheets were printed and the teams have received 'them. If they want the games in the paper the following will have to be done. The home team must complete the score sheet for both teams, mark the date on the sheet the game is played, the names of the two teams, see that the hits and errors are marked on the score sheet and most important, the full name of the player. We don't know who it is when it says Bill or Bob. Also when a substit- ute goes into the game there is a place on the score card to mark his name under the one he replaces. Be sure, to mark the inning the change is made as well. The games will be in the Citizens News as soon as the above is done. If early games are any indicatio then the Big Four football fans are in for a great, season of foot- ball play. The two games we saw on TV were full of exciting plays. If Montreal's new quarter- back, Wade, keeps up his excit- ing play and Toronto's, Tom Wilkinson, keeps passing like he has then there is going to be STARLITE r DRIVE-IN THEATRE GRAND BEND Open Nightly Except Sunday Thurs., Fri., Sat., Mon., Tues. and Wed. — August 14 to 20 (6 days) DOUBLE FEATURE Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Color) Dick Van Dyke, Sally Anne Howes YOURS, MINE and OURS (color) Lucille Ball, Henry Fonda Skippin' O'er SPORTS with "Red" McIntosh lots of long bombs and plenty of scoring this year. Ottawa will probably be too strong for the rest of the league but the fight for second place should be a real battle with Toronto grabbing it. Then we think Montreal will be a little better than Hamilton and grab the last spot for playoffs. It has happened. A lot of people laughed and said how crazy are those guys from Dash- wood. They ought to have their head read to think they can in- stall lights, where will they get the money? Dashwood can laugh now. The) didn't let the criticism bother them. No, instead they went to work, and worked hard. After a lot of canvassing and work on the diamond they saw their dreams fulfilled Friday night when the lights were turned on and the umpire said play ball. Dashwood deserves a lot of credit, especially the people who were so instrumental in laying out the ground work for the huge task. The boys who worked at collecting, the vol- unteer help, the people who did something about their dream, and the people who donated the money can all be proud of themselves and the new lights at the Dashwood Athletic Field. The people who laughed are not laughing now and calling the organizers of the Dashwood light fund crazy. As a little money is still needed to pay for part of the expense we think that a $10 donation from all the people who made fun of those who organized and saw the work completed would be a good way Charlies Dump Bluewater Boys Charlies Auto Sales came up with their first win in their last five starts last Wednesday night as they downed the Bluewater by a 23-6 score. Charlies had three heavy inning: scoring six runs in the first and eighth frames, and seven in the fourth. The six Bluewater runs were scattered over four innings. Twenty-three hits were counted by the winners, with four, includ• ing a triple, being contributed by Jerry Rader; three by Ray Finkbeiner, Kevin McKinnin, Richard Turkheim, and Ron Des- jardine; two by Paul Flaxbard, Richard Schilbe and Gary Flax - bard and one by Pete Regier. Pitcher Dave Durand hit two triples for the losers, while single hits were added by Paul Charrette, Bernie Denomme, Clarence Rau, Tony Denomme, and Percy Bedard. Jerry Rader and Kevin McKinnor, alternated innings on the mound for Charlies. The ball players around the Zurich Rec League are almost ready for the playoffs and they are beginning to talk of lights for their park next season. They have received a boost of enthus- iasm from the success that Dash- wood has had with their cam- paign and if they get started now they may be able to start next season with lights. They wouldn't need as much money and could probably raise it. However, it will take a few guys at the head of the committee who have faith that it can be done, who will work hard and not let any criticism stand in their way. We think it can be done even though money is scarce and the dollar does not seem to go very far any more. If one believes with all his heart that it can be done, it can be done. Only thing wrong is that you can't just think about it and get it done. Add a lot of hard work and desire and the job is almost completed. Zurich and Dashwood are hook- ed up in OBA play and all garnes are under the lights at Dashwood.
