Clover and basswood honey was a failure in this parr of the coun- try, It has been rated as the poorest crop in over 30 years, and the price will probably be around 25 cents per pound. F. C. Kalbfleisch had had a gasoline engine attached to his binder, which drives the pulling and binding apparatus, leaving only the hauling of the machine to the horses. This is the newest invention in existence. No 'principal has yet been engaged at the Dashwood Public School, but a new teacher, Miss Almeda Finkbeiner has been added to the staff. 40 Years Ago JULY, 1929 Rev. Father Stroeder of Maid- stone, former parish priest at Zurich, was a visitor this week with Father L. Power, in Zurich. Last Wednesday evening there was considerable excitement in the village when two cars crashed on the main street in front of Mousseau's garage. Mrs. Thomas Wren has moved her household effects from Hensall to Lucknow, where she will reside in the future. Her son, Berb has a good position in that village with Silverwood's Dairy. Nelson Blatchford, the weed inspector in Hensall in busy making his rounds cutting weeds and ordering a general clean-up throughout the village. Elmer Restemayer, of the Bronson Line. has taken over the fine farm from the estate of his late father, Edward Restemayer, in Hay Township. 25 Years Ago JULY, 191 A reception for Mr. and Mrs. Ted Munn, a recent bridal couple, was held in rhe Hensall Town Hall on Friday night. Mrs. Munn is the former Audrey Dinnin. A native of Zurich, Samuel E. Faust of Mitchell, died suddenly from a heart attack "shortly after he boarded a train for Saskatchewan. He passed , away before the train reached i Kitchener. Harvest operations are progress-' ing very nicely in this area, and ideal weather conditions have helped considetably. All the wheat is off and most of the oats are ready for cutting., Quite a number from Blake area were in Goderich on Satur- day to attend the funeral of a former resident, in the person of Chris Baechler. Miss Marie Cantin, of Montreal after spending a few weeks vacation with her parents at St. Joseph, has returned to her home where she will resume her position. 15 Years Ago JULY, 1954 Last Wednesday night a farewell party was held at the borne of Mr, and Mrs, Ted Steinbach, for Reg Illsley, who is leaving shortly for Lambeth. The event was sponsored by the Zurich Chamber of Commerce, an organization which Mr. Illsley has been very instrumental in forming. A.pretty wedding was solemn- ized in the Lutheran Church, Zurich, when Donna Joyce McClinchey became the bride of Herbert Elmore Klopp. Miss Gladys Luker, of Ilensall, had the misfortune to suffer a fall on Saturday, and x-rays revealed a broken bone in her left wrist. The Fraser -Rumford families held their annual reunion at the home of Mr. and Mg. Emil Becker, in Dashwood, with 25 present. ears go JULY, 1959 , Fire last Wednesday completely destroyed a large barn on the farm of John Groot, on the Blind Line, Hay Township. The loss was estimated at $10, 000. Miss Mary Shea, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shea, Dublin, will begin her teaching career at St. Boniface School, Zurich, this September. -She is a graduate of Stratford Teacher's College. A former principal of the Zuricl Public School, A. Percy Rowe has been r4med head of the guidance department at Bramp- ton High School. He resides in Bolton. The Zurich Lumberkings clinched first place in the Huron - Perth baseball league with a convincing 8-4 victory over Dashwood. Lefty Claude Tessier held the powerful Tigers to five scattered hits throughout the nine innings. Danny Trushinski was the lead- ing batter for the Zurich Lumber - kings during the season just con- cluded, with an average of .500. Bill Yungblut was next in lice with a .02 average. 0 Coleman Reunion At Seaforth Park The annual Coleman reunion was held at the Seaforth Lions Park with 78 in attendance. The committee in charge included President, Francis Coleman; first vice president, Ellwood Clarke (presided); 2nd vice president, Bruce Coleman; treasurer, Mrs. Emerson Cole- man; secretary, Mrs. George Hildebrand; lunch committee, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Morenz, Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Doig. Dowson of Huronview and formerly of Varna, died at Huronview follow- ing an illness of two months. She was 82. Born in Stanley Township, she was the daughter of the late George Dowson and Eleanor McKinley. She is survived by a brother, George Dowson of Seaforth. She was a member of the Goshen United Church. Funeral service was conducted . from the R. S. Box funeral home, conducted by Rev. M. Morrison. Interment followed in Bayfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Elgin Mci<inle; Bernard Keys, Frank McClinchey, Wilmer McClinchey, Campbell McKinley and Arnold Keys. Flower bearers were Steven, Allen and Douglas Keys. 0 In good weather, worn tires do not affect stopping ability as much as one might think. Obituary ALEXANDER MCDOUGALL Alexander McDougall , R. R. 1, I-lensall, passed away Tuesday, July 22 at South Huron Hospital, Exeter. He was 85 years old. Surviving are his wife; the former Maudie Drover; and two songs, John and Lloyd both of R. R. 1, Hensall. Public funeral service was held from Bonthron funeral home, Hensall, Thursday, at 2:- 30 p,m. with the Rev. W. D. Jarvis officiating. Interement was in Staffa Cemetery.
