NO THROUGH TRAFFIC - Anne Street in Exeter
was in the centre of the severe storm which raged
through that town last Thursday afternoon, and a
section of the pavement heaved up so badly that
traffic had to be cut off for a few clays. Large
chunks of asphalt even floated down the street
from the force of the water.

Fine 1200 People
For Littering
There are at least 1, 200 people
who are very much aware that
it is against the law to litter
the highways in Ontario. They
have paid the fines that prove
it.
These are the number of fines
that have been handed out over
the past three years at an average
of more than 350 per year.
And these don't count the
hundreds of motorists who have
gotten away with just a warning.
The fine for a first offence
ranged from $5 to $50 and fines
increase with the number of
offences. A third time loser
can have hit licence or permit
suspended for up to 60 days.
If you're a litterbug who has
never been caught don't get the
idea that you are getting away
with anything. As a taxpayer
you still pick up part of the
tab for the cleaning.

SAFETY FIRST
Drivers are reminded that cars
just don't "Stop on a dime".
The Ontario Safety League points
out that even at the modest
speed of 30 m.p.h. an alert
driver, with good brakes, needs
more than twice the width of the
average intersection to stop his
car.
