Kalbfleisch, of the Ivlolson's Bank in Alvinston, was a weekend visitor at the home of his parents in Zurich. Thomas Davidson and Albert Thiel returned from overseas to their homes in Zurich during the past week. The Zurich baseball team journeyed to Clinton on May 24, and after playing two games which they won, came home with a silver trophy and $10 in cash for being tournament winner. Clarnece Hoffman was the winning pitcher for the first game while his brother Lee was [he winner in the second. Harry Kraft purchased a num- ber of building lots in Dashwood from C. Kellerman, and intends erecting a couple of dwellings on the same. Privates Ray McArthur and Seven Confirmed On Pentecost u, Pentecost was observed in -St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Zurich, with the confirmation of seven youthful members. As a duet, Mr. and Mrs. Bev Strucke sand "Take Time to be Holy" and following the sermon on Joseph advising his brothers, Ruth Ann Fleischauer and Marlene Rader sang"1 Have a Friend" Tree of the confirmands, who had been baptized on the same day in November, 1955, were John Earl Schilbe, Daniel Louis Schilbe and Douglas Henry Schilbe. With them in their confirmation were John Earl Beichert, Ronald Edward Rader, Nancy Margaret Baker, and Diane Louise Klopp. A social reception will be held after the Communion Service on June. 1 in honour of the newly confirmed and of all who were received into membership during the past twelve months. All the congregation is involved in the reception. The confirmation rite climaxes a two year period of concentrat- ed Christian education following the outline of Martin Luther's catechism. - OF- YEARS GONE - BY- Wallace Dick returned to Hen- sall from overseas at the latter part of last week. Last Friday night about 30 friends of Albert Bender gathered at the home of his father to honour him on his return from overseas, where he has been in active combat for two years. 40 Years Ago MAY, 1929 A large machine has been placed at the water's edge at St. Joseph, to load trucks with gravel for the road. These powerful trucks manage to drive right down the hill to load up and then come back up again. One of the oustanding items on the Sunday program at the Lutheran Church in Zurich will be the ordination of Rev. Albert Datars, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Datars, of Zurich. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Talbot, of the Bluewater highway in Stanley Township, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last Wednesday. William Hildebrandt,: one of , the early residents of the village of Hensall, has sold his residence on Richmond Street to George R. Hess, a jeweller. , Thomas Johnson has made substantial improvements to his residence in Zurich with the addition of a new verandah at the front of the building. The Zurich Jubilee Band took part in the Hensall Firemen's big night on May 24. 25 Years Ago MAY, 1944 R. J. Paterson, assessor for the village of Hensall, reported at the council meeting that the present population of Hensall is 631 persons, while the assessment at present is $433, 168. Privates Harold and Milford Thiel have left to resume their duties with the armed forces, after spending a furlough at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Thiel. Marie to Cochrane in the very near future. Airs. Gideon Koehler has re- turned to her duties as school teacher on the Part Line, after a few w'eek's absence. Her place was filled by Mrs. Earl Desch while she was away. The streets in the village of Zurich have been gone over and the holes patched with the usual black tar mix. This makes driving much more suitable then before.
