Lambeth 5-3 In Best Showing
The Zurich Dominions came up
with their best effort of the sea-
son on Monday night whey bumped
off the league -leading Lambeth
Flyers, 5-3. The game was played
in the St. Thomas Elgin Memorial
Arena, and the locals seemed to
enjoy the huge ice surface in the
modern building.
Last Thursday night in Hanover
the Dominions had to come from
behind to gain an 8-7 victory over
the Hurricanes, On Friday night
in Mitchell the Dominions came
back strong in the third period,
but fell one goal short of tieing
the score; when they were edged
out 4-3. On Sunday afternoon they
suffered their worst defeat of the
season at the hands of the Lam-
beth crew, 7-0. The Monday night
game was their fourth in five days.
On Saturday night the locals
will travel to Belmont, and bellow-
ing their sparkling 5-3 win over
Lambeth, they are quite confident
they can upset the second -place
Sunsets. The next home game for
the locals will be this Sunday af-
ternoon when the same Lambeth
Flyers will pay their last visit of
the regular season to Zurich.
Zurich 5—Lambeth 3
In St. Thomas on Monday night
the Zurich crew took a command-
ing 3-0 lead in the first period, on
goals by Butch Fleet, Stew Mustard
and Ron Corriveau. All three goals
were scored by the five-minute
mark.
The Dominions saw their lead
dwindle to 3-1 early in the second
period before Corriveau scored his
second goal of the game on a
Breakaway while his team was
shorthanded. However, in the next
three minutes Lambeth name up
with two big goals to close the
gap at 4-3. From this point on
the Dominions came up with their
most brilliant performance, skat-
ing and checking like seasoned
veterans. From the 8:25 mark of
the second period . on Lambeth
failed to come up with another
goal,
. Close checking by both teams
featured the third period, and -Gary
Geoffrey, in the Zurich nets, had
to come up with numerous sensa-
tional stops to keep the Flyers •off
the scoresheet. With only five
minutes left in the game and Lam-
beth trying desperately for the
tying goal, Stew Mustard banged
in his second goal of the night to
insure the locals of their first win
of the season over one of the top
teams, A penalty to Zurich with
one minute to go gave Lambeth
new life, and they pulled their
goalie in a desperate attempt to
beat Geoffrey. The Dominions
came up with a sparkling perform-
ance in the dying minute of the
game, and kept the Flyers well
away from scoring range.
The line of Stew Mustard, Ron
Corriveau and Richard Schilbe
picked up nine points in the game,
three to each member. Kevin Mc-
Kinnon earned an assist on Fleet's
goal
Both teams had 32 shots on goal,
while Zurich picked up eight minor
penalties compared to five for
Lambeth
Lambeth 7—Zurich 0
Playing just the opposite type
of hockey to which they played in
St Thomas on Monday night, the
Zurich Dominions suffered one of
their worst setbacks of the season
on Sunday afternoon, when the
visiting Lambeth Flyers trounced
them 7-0. The Flyers scored two
goals in both the first and second
periods, and then added three more
in the third.
Pete Jenkinson let the attack
for the visitors with two goals,
while Little, Thomas, Dufty, Elrick
and Webster each scored one.

in the game with 10 of there going
to Zurich and eight to Lambeth.
Minor Hockey Day hi Zurich Featured
Twelve Teams in Hea y Action Al! Day
The Minor Hockey Day held in
Zurich last Saturday, sponsored by
the Zurich Minor Athletic Associa-
tion, proved to be a huge success
as hundreds of interested parents
and relatives attended the actVvi-
ties. Stormy weather and near
zero temperatures failed to cool
the spirits of all the boys taking
part in the big day. The only dis-
appointment came in the evening
when the Blyth Midgets were un-
able to reach Zurich, due to stormy
weather and unfavorable driving
conditions.
Six games were held throughout
the afternoon and early evening,
and following each contest the
players involved were treated to
light refreshments by the Ladies'
Auxiliary to the Zurich MAA. The
association cleared about $100 on
the day's activities, after all ex-
penses were paid.
House League All -Stars
The first game on the schedule
at 12:30 saw the House League All -
Stars formed .into two teams, and
the Rockets came up with a big
12-1 win over the Flyers.

Regier were the big guns in the
Rocket's victory, each scoring three
goals. Ron and Larry Smith each
scored twice, while Ron Regier and
Greg Thiel accounted for the other
two goals. Steve Durand scored
the lone goal for the Flyers.
Mite Ali -Stars

gram pitted the Lions All -Stars
against the Tiger All -Stars, and

in their victory with two goals,
while Timmy Bedour scored the
third. For the Lions Barry Over-
holt and Stephen Grainger each
scored once

Kinnon, Wayne Schilbe and Danny
Meidinger each scored once.

Zurich PeeWees 6—Exeter 0

tone of things in their game with
Exeter, as they came up with a
convincing 6-0 score. They banged
in one in the first, added two more
in the second and then came up
with three more in the third.
Gerald Weido, with three big
goals, and Pat Bedard with two,
paced the Zurich attack. Kim Mc-
Kinnon, scored the other goal for
Zurich. Seven penalties were
called in the game, with four going
to Exeter and three to Zurich.
Zurich Bantams 6—Exeter 6
With only one minute left in the
game, John Mommersteeg scored
his second goal for the Zurich Ban-
tams, to give his team a 6-6 draw
with Exeter. Zurich had taken a
1-1 lead in the first period, only
to have Exeter come back strong
in the second and take a 4-2 lead.
However, in the third period the
.locals came to life again and
scored four goals while holding the
visitors to two.
Other marksmen for Zurich were
Ronnie Rader, Pat Bedard, Ronnie
Clarke and Gerald Weido, with one
each.
For Exeter John Muller led the
attack with two goals, while Don
Miners, Jim Musser, Randy Tiernan
and Dick Fairbarn each scored one.
Only two penalties were handed
out in the game, one to each team.
The Bantam game was the end
of the afternoon program, and in
the evening the Goderich Mites
played the Zurich Mites in the
first game. The highlight of the
evening was to have been the
Midget game between the high-
flying Blyth crew and the strong
Zurich club.
Goderieh Mites 10—Zurich 0
The Zurich Mites met the tough-
est competition of the day when
they faced Goderich in the eve-

Mitchel! 4—Zurich 3
Zurich Dominions came a skate
lace away from tying the Mitchell
Hawks in OHA Junior D competi-
tion last Friday night, but only bad
luck and Hawks' goalie Chuck
Wildgust kept them from it.
The Hawks gained an easy three-
goal lead during the first two peri-
ods before the Dominions caught
fire in the third. In the final 10
minutes of the game Dominions
rebounded for two goals and very
nearly scored a third with a min-
ute remaining.
Hawks scored the only goal of
the first period on a power -play.
Don Murray rifled the puck in
from 10 feet catching the top left
corner.
Hawks' Chuck Wildgust and Gary
Geoffrey, Dominions' goalie, kicked
out an equal number of shots dur-
the remainder of the period.
At 5:00 of the second period,
Keith Finnigan took the puck from
teammate Dave O'Donnell at the
blue line and went in alone. His
shot glanced off Geoffrey's stick,
hit the post and bounced away
from the net.
Two minutes later, Finnigan
capitalized on another pass from
O'Donnell. He scored from five
feet.
Near 9:00, Hawks' Brian Melady
caught a rebound and slammed it
under the Zurich goalkeeper.
Mitchell held a three -goal lead,
Dominions started to play hoc-
key only in the closing five minutes
of the period. At 16:13, Kevin
McKinnon fired the puck at Wild -
gust from 10 feet. It hit Wild -
gust's pads and flew over bis head
into the top left corner.
Mitchell scored its last goal at
5:22 of the last 20 minutes, then
died. O'Donnell broke in alone,
deked Geoffrey and fired the puck
in the low left corner.
In the next 10 minutes, Domin-
ions outshot Hawks 10-3. At 13:25
Zurich's Butch Fleet scored num-
ber two on a power -play. Three
minutes later he repeated his per-
formance with a backhander from
close in.
With a minute and a half re-
maining in the period, Dominions
stepped on the gas, Geoffrey was
pulled for an extra forward, but
the move backfired in their faces.
A loose puck from a goalmouth
scramble in Mitchell's end was in-
tercepted by Bill Taylor near the
empty net. Taylor was forced to
play goal for the next couple of
seconds while Hawks momentarily
rained in the shots.
Twenty seconds remaining in the
game, the puck moved into Hawks
end again, and Wildgust repelled
three hard shots from in close.
Zurich 8—Hanover 7

Zurich Dominions, and held them
to an 8-7 verdict, Zurich played
without three of four of their reg-
ulars and coach Doug O'Brien

two quiek goals before they tin -
tracked in the first period, the
Zurich PeeWees came back strong

had scored two 'themselves, and
then they added one more in the
second and another two in the
third.
In the second period Mitchell
came back strong to score twice,
and take a 4.3 lead by the end
of that period. However, it was
Zurich all the way in the third as
they scored one to tie the score
early in the session and then
banged in the winner with only a
few minutes left to play. Even
though Mitchell pulled their goalie
with two minutes left, the locals

added two more in the second, and
came un with their final marker
in the third.

he stopped the fast -skating Goder-
ich crew on numerous occasions.

alties in the game.

goals to their one in the second,
