CANADIAN BALLADEERS—Canada's "Cow-
boy Troubadour" Stu Davis, and his balladeer son,
Duane, narrate the history of the early west in the
new summer series Trail -Riding Troubadour, Wed-
nesdays, on the CBC -TV network (in color) . The
series utilizes an unusual combination of documen-
tary and variety techniques, with added dimension
of the songs and ballads that grew out of Canada's

Health Tips For
Vacation Given
By Heart Group
The advent of summer brings
a vacation -with -pay gleam to
the eye of millions of Canadian.
And a word of advice from On-
4tario Heart Foundation.
Remember, you may be on
vacation, but your heart doesn't
get one.
That splendid organ was de-
rsigned to work without a lay-
off. But the temptation is to
make abnormal demands on it
at just the time it has to work
trarder to keep you cool in heat
and :high humidity.
Your heart will sustain you
in added activity only if you
knave trained it to do so grad-
zrally. Don't be a week -end
athlete, or a two -week -on end

activist, Especially if you are
near or in middle -age and have
led a fireside existence.
Sedentary individuals, espe-
cially those who are consistent
cigarette smokers, appear to be
especially prone to lethal heart
attacks, Ontario Heart Founda-
tion notes.
You may be eager to squeeze
the maximum out of your free
time and money, but don't
plunge into activities, particu-
larly on that first trip to the
beach. The water may be cold-
er than you think, and sudden,
extreme changes of temperature
can affect even the healthy
heart.
Moderation is the key in
everything. Follow a nutritious
diet, but don't overeat. Instead
of rich fatty foods, eat fish,
chicken, turkey, lean meats,
vegetables, fruit, skimmed milk,
cheeses made with skimmed
milk, and margarines and short-
enings made with polyunsatur-
ated vegetable oils. These are
light, digestable, and the basis
for a diet, low in cholesterol
and saturated fats, which pro-
motes better health the year
round.
Keep men tally cool, too.
Avoid stress and strain that
can be magnified in hot
weather.
If you are involved in home
repair—stretch them out. Driv-
ing? Take frequent rest stops,
Don't get overtired. Wear
loose -fitting clothes for better
air circulation; garments of a
light color allow heat rays to
bounce off. Drink plenty of
fluids, but do go easy an iced
liquids. Often they have the
effect of making you feel :hotter.
Of course, if you are a heart
patient, you should seek your
doctor's adyice before planning
a vacation. For all others the
foregoing advice bolls down to
this—if you use your head, you
will be helping your heart.
