BOYS' ATHLETIC SOCIETY --Along with a
student council and a girls' athletic society formed
recently at the Zurich Public School, another group
was elected, known as a Boys' Athletic Society, rep-
resented by members of various rooms in the school.

GIRLS' ATHLETIC SOCIETY —
In the past couple of weeks a girls'
and boys' athletic society was formed
at the Zurich Public School, with rep-
resentatives elected from each room,
by their fellow students. Back row,
left to right, are Sandra Schroeder,
Wilma Weiberg, Debbie Riddle, Di-
anne Klopp ; front row, left to right,
Kim Hendrick, Elizabeth Deichert, Ida

Hensall Pulls Upset in Rec League with
Victory Over First Place Dashwood

Hensall 5—Dashwood 4
Last Thursday night in Rec
League hockey Hensall broke
Dashwood's winning str eak
when they defeated the Bears
5 to 4 in a fast skating game.
Hensall's Ken Parker was the
sharp -shooter, collecting a pair
of goals, while Murray Baker,
Grant McClinchey and Danny
Xipfer managed to get one each.
Bob Hoffman was Dashwood's
top scorer with two goals. Sin-
gles went to Bob Hayter and.
Bill Hoffman.
In the first period Dashwood
found the net twice, with .a goal
at the 2:45 and 12:30 marks.
Hensall were able to get one by
Dashwood's goalie.
At the beginning of the sec-
ond period Hensall scored the
lone goal of the stanza, as Dash-
wood were unable to find the
net, to leave the score a 2-2 tie.
The final period was very
closely played, as Hensall out-
scored the Bears 3 to 2 to give
the Hensall Flyers their second
straight win.
There •were seven penalties,
four going to Dashwood and
three to Hensall. Goal tenders
for Dashwood were John Hay-
ter and Carl Tyler. Hensall
goal -tender was Gary Kyle.
Zurich Kings 7—Zurich Braves 4
The Zurich Kings defeated
the Zurich Braves '7 to 4, in a
well -played Rec Hockey league
game last Thursday night.
Earl Wagner started the Kings
off at the three-minute mark of
the first period to get their tone
goal of that stanza. At the
10:25 mark of the first, the
Braves came • to life as they
popped in three goals in five
minutes, with the goals going
to Paul Hesse, Lorne Sparks and
Gary Flaxbard.
In the second period the
Kings out -scored the Braves 5
to 1. George Suplat collected
a pair, while Jim Consitt, Greg
Willert and Earl Wagner (his
second of the night) fired in
singles. Gary Flaxbard, with
his second goal of the game,
got the Graves lone goal in the
second stanza.
In the last period Larry Mern-
er, of the Zurich Kings, man-
aged to get the only goal scored
in the period, to give the Kings
a 7 to 4 win •over the Braves.
There were only five penalties

Peewees Lose to
Hensall in Thriller

On Wednesday night the Zur-
ich Peewees lost to Hensall,
4.3, in a game played in the
Zurich Arena.
The goal scores for Zurich
were Gerald Weido, Danny
Sehilbe and Joey Kende.
The Hensall goals were scored
by Peter Jantzi, Kevin Buchanan
and Terry Mattson, with two.
Squirts Defeat Hensall
The wee ones (Squirts) played
Wednesday night in Hensall,
with the Zurich crew coming
up with a 2-1 victory.
The Zurich goals were scored
by Wayne SchiIbe and Gregory
Love.
Bantams Lose
Wednesday night the Zurich
Bantams lost to Hensall 8-0.
Although the Bantams did not
win any games so far this sea-
son, they won the group cham-
pionship in their league, and
will meet Ripley in WOAA Ban-
tam 'E' playoffs. Hensall is a
Bantam `D' team, and will also
advance into playoffs in their
classification.

Playoff Time for
Zurich Minors
The Zurich Bantams are cur-
rently involved in a best -of -
three series with Ripley, with
the first game being played last
night in Zurich. Date for the
second game in :Ripley had not
been established at press :time.
Zurich Midgets will meet
Blyth in a best -of -five playoff
series, and the first game of
this series was scheduled for
last night in BIyth. Second
game in this series will be play-
ed in Zurich this Saturday night,
at 8 p.m. The third game will
be back in Blyth next Monday
night, with a fourth if needed,
back in Zurich next Wednesday
night.
The Zurich Juveniles will
play Brussels in another play-
off series, with the first game
scheduled for Monday night in

Zurich Flyers Trounce Monkton; Need
Crediton Victory to Make Playoffs
The Zurich Flyers kept their
playoff chances alive on Tues-
day night, when they came up
with their best effort of the
season in :trouncing the highly -
rated Monkton Wildcats, 10-3,
in the local arena. Zurich is
now tied for Iast playoff posi-
tion with Blyth, who have one
more game to play, Blyth meets
Crediton on Friday night. If
they happen to lose that game

Three goals each by Earl
Wagner and Bob Merner helped
Zurich Flyers defeat Blyth 8 to
4 in WOAA Intermediate 'bD"
hockey last Wednesday night
in Blyth. The other Zurich
marksman was Bill Hoffman,
collecting a pair. Blyth's goal -
getters were Gord Haggitt, Jim
Stewart, Jerry Elliott and Ron
Cook.
In the first period Zurich
could not get the puck to
bounce in the right direction
as Blyth •out -scored them 3 to 0.
After a talk from Bill Wagner,
coach of the team, the Flyers
pumped in five goals in the
second. The first three goals
were scored in less than four
minutes. iBlyth were left score-
less, to leave the score 5 to 3
in favor of Zurich.
In the final stanza Zurich
popped in three goals while
Blyth were only able to collect
a single, to give Zurich a tie in
standings with Blyth.
There were only six penalties
in the game, with each team
collecting three. Paul Steckle
and Percy Bedard shared goal-
tending chores for Zurich, with
Steckle working two periods.

In Big Game Here

Last Friday night in WOAA
Intermediate "D' ; Blyth defeat-
ed Zurich 4 to 3. Blyth goal -
tender Lorne Dear played a fan-
tastic game as the Flyers, by
far, outplayed them.
In the first and second peri-
ods, Blyth held a 4 too lead.
Grant Elliott collected a pair,
while singles went to Ed Dear
and Doug McDougall.
Zurich Yield the puck in
Blyth's end most of the second
and third periods, but were un-
able to score until the 5:05
mark of the. last. period. Bob
Merner started Zurich off with
a goal. In the next two min-
utes Ken Westlake and Jim
Pfaff scored to the make the
score 4 to 3.
The Flyers pulled their goal -
tender but were unable to find
the tying goal.
There were five penalties in
the game, four going to Blyth
and the single to Zurich.
Brussels, Second game in this
series will be played back in
Zurich next Friday night, Feb-
ruary 16.

end up in •a tie for fourth posi-
tion, and this would necessitate
a two -out -of -three series to de-
termine which team enters the
playoffs. On the other hand if
Blyth defeats Crediton they will
automatically advance into the
finals.
Bill Hoffman was the individ-
ual star in the big upset Tues-
day night, as he fired six goals
past a bewildered Monkton
goalie. The other Zurich mark-
ers were scored by Barry Bloch,
Jim Pfaff, Bob Merner and
George Suplat, The line of
Hoffman, Pfaff and Ken West-
lake played an outstanding game
for ,the Flyers as they skated
hard both ways and kept pep-
pering the Monkton net all
night.
Another star in the victory
was Rick Jeffrey, playing his
first game in the nets for the
intermediate club. The classy
Juvenile goalie kicked out shot
after shot that could have been
goals.
Zurich went into an early
lead in the first period, as they
blinked the red light four times
to Monkton's twice. In the sec-
ond stanza they scored once,
while blanking their opponents.
Their biggest rally, however„
came in the third when they
fired five more pucks pest
Kreiger, in the Monkton net.
Hoffman scored four of his
goals in the third frame, while
the other two carne in the first.
A total of six zninor penal-
ties were handed out in the
game, with four of then, going
to the locals.
