Mr, and Mrs, V. M. Pyette
left Thursday for Belleville to
take up residence, where Mr.
Pyette, manager of the Bank of
Montreal here for five years,
has been transferred. Mrs.
Pyette, president of Hensall WI,
was presented with a gift be-
fore leaving,
Mrs, Grace Har'pole left on
Thursday to spend the winter
months with her son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. D. H.
Peacock, and family in Ottawa.
Leslie Riley, who has been a
patient in St, Joseph's Hospital,
London, returned home over
the week -end,
Orville Smith is a patient in
St, Joseph's Hospital, London.
!Mrs. R, J. Cameron celebrated
her 85th birthday on Saturday,
December 9, with a Sunday din-
ner at their cottage on their
farm with a few friends at-
tending.

Hensall are being very much
admired. Same of the resi-
dence are a work of fart with
•colored lights and Christmas
motif which adds so much to
the festive season.

Mrs, Florence Joynt, who has

k 95 Years Old
J. Y. W. Paterson, 455 Hills-
dale Avenue Est, Toronto, form-
erly of Hensall, will celebrate
his 95th birthday on Sunday,
December 24, Mr. Paterson is
quite well for his advanced
years, both physically and men-
tally, and is quite active with a
wonderful memory of things
that happened when he was a
young man here,
He left Hensall in 1907 and
has lived in Toronto for 60
years, and followed the same
business (carpentering) that he
learned with his late father in
Hensall.
Mr. Paterson retired when he
was 82, just a few years before
the death of his wife, the form-
er Marion Sproat MacGregor,
who passed away in 1955,
Their son, Sproat, retired last
Friday, after being connected
for 88 years with the George
McLeod Builders Supply Ce-
ment Company.
Mr. Paterson says he will al-
ways have a soft place in his
heart for Hensall.

Pack Boxes
Members of the Women's Mis-
sionary Society and Ladies' Aid
of Carmel Presbyterian Church
met at the home of Mrs, Earl
Campbell last Thursday after-
noon, and packed 'Christmas
boxes for :shut-ins of the church
at Queensway Nursing Home,
South Huron Hospital, Blue
Water Rest Home, Huronview,
Clinton, and Hensall.

Christmas Verse is
W.I. Roll Call
In a lovely setting of Christ-
mas motif, Hensall Women's In-
stitute held its Christmas meet-
ing in the Legion Hall on Wed-
nesday, December 13. Mrs.
Clarence Reid, the new presi-
dent, chaired the meeting and
welcomed 21 members and 10
guests.
Members answered the roll
call with a Christmas verse.
Correspondence was read by
the secretary, Mrs. Wilbert bill-
ing. Mrs. It. A, Orr reported
for, the district board of direc-
tors' meeting.
It was disclosed that 630
books of History of Hensall had
been sold up to date, and more
are obtainable.
The Christmas collection will
be forwarded to the Children's
Aid Society at Goderich.
Miss Greta Lammie took the
chair for the program when
Mrs. Harvey Hyde introduced
the guest speaker, Mrs. J. C.
Boyne, of Exeter, who spoke on

DOING IT THE QUICKEST WAY -- Ted
Geoffrey, RR 2, Zurich, saw the Christmas spirit in
action as five of his neighbors brought tractors and
plows to turn the sod at his farm. Mr. Geoffrey,
who is recouperating from an illness, said some of
the men had left their own work to assist him with
his fall plowing. The weather was cold but the job
was done through the generosity of warm hearts
—a fine Christmas present for the Geoffreys.

"Christmas novelties" by Mrs.
Robert Elgie; Centennial read-
ing by Mrs. Robert Simpson;
piano solo by Betty Beer; quar-
tette with Sherry Travers, Car-
men Currie, Katherine McEwen
and Brenda Link, who sang two
numbers, accompanied by ,Miss
Greta Lammie.
Mrs. T. J. Sherritt led a sing -
son of Christmas carols.
Program convenors were Mrs.
Fred Beer and Miss Greta Lam-
mie. Hostesses were Mrs. Joe
Ferguson and Mrs. Jarvis
Horton.
Four Brownies Fiy
Up to Guides
Christmas decorations and a
Christmas tree formed the very
pretty setting for last Tuesday's
fly -up - ceremony when four
Hensall Brownies received their
wings and flew up to Guides.
They were: Eileen Klungel,
Patti Rawcliffe, Joan Alexan-
der and Karen Kyle.
Brown Owl Mrs. Robert Cook
extended a welcome to the large
number of others present, and
Tawny Owl Mrs. Rodger Ven-
eer assisted with the ceremony.
She also read a delightful
Christmas poem. Snowy Owl
Mrs. Barrie Jackson presented
Golden Hands to the four
Brownies flying up, and also
presented the following interest
badges.
Jennifer Cook, Joan Alexan-
der and Betty Beer received
their House Orderly badges.
Daneen Ward and Joan Alex-
ander their Collectors badge,
and Eileen Klungel, her Toy -
makers badge. Debbie Smith
also earned the right to her
Golden Hands and her Wings,
but was absent for the fly -up
ceremony.
Following the ceremony the
Brownies and Guides sang songs
around the camp fire, two of
the songs to the accompaniment
of the Brownie Rhythm Band.

esses for the evening, and who
received their hostess badge at

A canvass is made of the vil-
lage each year in the interest
of the Bible Society. The United

AGRI -RESEARCH—Miss Linda Miller, of Dashwood,
Ontario, examines experimental corn at the Growth Sciences
Center of International Minerals and Chemicals Corporation
at Libertyville, Illinois. She visited .t'he research laboratories
while attending the 46th National 4-H Club Congress in
'Chicago as one of ten Canadian delegates sponsored by IMC,
which ,operates the world's largest potash mine and mill at
Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. More than 1,600 4-H'ers from the
United States and Canada attended the recent Congress
(November 25 to December 1). With Miss Miller is Dr. S. M.
King, IMC manager of fertilizer research on crop systems.
