DECEMBER, 1917
No grain of any kind and no
substance that can be used for
food shall be used in Canada
after November 30 for the dis-
tillation of portable liquors. An
order -in -council to this effect
has been passed upon the rec-
ommendation of the food con-
troller.
A convenient and simple form
to help tell whether the flock
is paying or not has been work-
ed out by the Poultry Division,
Experimental Farin, Ottawa. If
you want to know what your
hens are doing, write for them.
Headache of any kind, is
caused by auto -intoxication —
which means self poisoning. A
glass of hot water with a tea-
spoonful of limestone phosphate
in it, drank before breakfast
for a while, will not only wash
these poisons from your sys-
tem and cure you of your head-
ache but will cleanse, purify
and freshen the entire alimen-
tary canal.
Our tax collector is again
gathering in the sheckels.

DECEMBER, 1927
Someone who should know
advised us that the municipal
pot is beginning to boil. It is
some years since we have ex-
perienced municipal elections,
and a great many are anxious
for an excitement of this kind.
While Messrs. Peter Krofp, of
the village, and Councillor Alf
Reichert, of Hay Township, were
at Kitchener over the week -end.
owing to the icy conditions of
the road they collided with 'an-
other car and received a severe
shaking up. Mr. Reichert going
through the windshield of the
car was considerably cut about
the face, while Mr. Kropf was
somewhat injured behind the
steering wheel of the car. They
were taken to the hospital
where the latter was uncon-
scious for a time.

dine, a daughter. In Hay Town-
ship to Mr. and Mrs Herb
Kreuger, a daughter.

training centre known as Camp
Ipperwash was officially opened
last Thursday by Hon. J. L,
Ralston, minister of national de-
fence. At the present time
more than 700 soldiers, all
ranks, are quartered at the
camp and training has com-
menced

open house and the burning of
the mortgage ceremony.

studying Ontario's farming methods. Prac-

For New Term
Unit four, UCW of .Hensall
United Church held a Christmas
fellowship meeting •on Thurs-
day, December 7, with 32 mem-
bers .and five guests present
The program, which commenced
at 10 a.m., include quilting,
knitting and visiting, with a de-
licious pot -luck dinner served
at noon.
Worship service was conduc-
ed by Mrs. E. Rowe and Mrs.
Leona Parke An interesting
part of the program was for
each member to say something
nice about the person to the
left of them.
The following are the execu-
tive for 1968: leader, Mrs.
Ja m e s McAllister; secretary,
Mrs R. M. Peck; treasurer,
Mrs. T. J. Sherritt; assistant,
Mrs. George Armstrong; pian-
ist, Mrs. Sherritt.
Christmas stockings were
handed out to members which
will be filled for women pa-
tients at the Ontario Hospital,
Goderich. Christmas carols
were sung.

Huron County Junior Farmers Hold
Public Speaking Competitions
The Huron County Junior
Farmers met in the :agricultural
board rooms at Clinton on No-
vember 29. The public speak-
ing competition was held at the
regular meeting with Bob Foth-
eringham acting e h a i r m a n.
Three speakers from the county
juniors were Donna Reynolds,
Alice Allen and Jamieson Ribeg.
Allice Allen won the compe-
tition with . her topic about
young people mistaking educa-
tion for jobs with no future.
Alice will go to Toronto in
January. The judge for the
competition was Dale Grey,
teacher from the Clinton Dis-
trict Secondary School.
Murray Hoover took charge
after the public speaking. Jam-
ieson Ribeg read the minutes
of the last meeting and took
the roll call. Don Pullen gave
the treasurer's report.
Donald Young reported that
the Huronco Review books are
to be out by the middle of De-
cember. Anyone wanting one
must contact a junior farmer
member. It was decided to
send 50 dollars to the World
Literary Fund of Canada. This
was the proceeds from the
ticket draw at Seaforth ban-
quet.
Plans are being made for the
annual meeting to be held in
Belgrave the first Friday of
February. They also decided
to hold the annual curling bon -
spiel in Seaforth on January 27.
The Toronto conference is to
be held on January 5-6 at the
King Edward Hotel. The Hur-
on County bowling tournament
is to be held at the 'Clinton
Bowling Lanes on December 27.
Murray Hoover is to be the
delegate to the Huron Federa-
tion of Agriculture.
