OCTOBER, 1917
H. W. Doerr, of Exeter, has
been appointed superintendent
of the Zurich Hydro Power
System. His duties will be to
read the meters, make collec-
tions, and keep the system in
working condition.
Private Maurice Weber ar-
rived home from overseas on
Monday. He was wounded at
the first Vimy Ridge battle, and
later suffered shocks from an
aerial raid behind the lines.
Walter R. Miller has sold his
fine 100 -acre farm on the
Goshen Line south to his
brother-in-law, Alex Voisin, who
will get possession next spring.
Henry Reichert has sold his
fine 100 -acre farm on the Parr
Line to his son-in-law, John
Richardson, for the stun of
57,000.
James Carlin has moved into
the dwelling in Hensall which
recently purchased from Dr. H.
Malloy.
.A heavy frost visited this
section on Monday night and
spoiled any garden vegetables
which were still out, as well as
damaging the bean and corn
crops which have not been
harvested.

OCTOBER, 1927
Ward Fritz was in Toronto
this week and returned home
with a fine new Star six coach,
which is quite a nice vehicle
for the road.
Herb Mousseau, Wellington
Johnston and William O'Brien
were on a duck hunting expe-
dition up to Holyrood, but un-
fortunately they came home
empty handed.
The final game of baseball
for the South Huron champion-
ship was played in Zurich on
Saturday afternoon, and the re-
sult was that Hensall won the
title with a score of 6-5.
Claude Rau has left his home
on the Bluewater highway for
Detroit, where he has secured
a fine position with a reliable
employer.
Mrs. B.. Bennett, who has
been residing in her frame
dwelling on Victoria Street in
Zurich, has vacated her prem-
ises and moved to Sarnia, where
she plans to make her home in
the future.
Floyd Wein, of the Dash-
wood area, suffered a painful
injury to his foot while cutting
wood, when a chunk flipped up
and hit hint.

her shop and taken a position

action overseas, is now report-
ed to be safe in a German
prisoner -of -war camp.

Robert Bell, who has been a
teller at the Bank of Montreal
in Zurich, has been transferred
to Brampton, and his place is
being filled by Don Shanahan,
a native of the Clinton area.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Black,
of Vancouver, are spending a
month in this part of Ontario,
and at present are visiting with
his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Reg
Black, and family, in Zurich.
Andrew Y. McLean, the Lib-
eral member of parliament for
Huron, has been appointed as

The following students from
Zurich are attending high
school at Exeter, and have just
commenced their classes: Jean
Krueger, Arvis Haberer, Flor-
ence Haberer, Bruce Eickmeier,
Herb Turkheim and Ray Schilbe.
Archie MacKinnon, who spent
summer in Waterloo, was home
for a few days before return-
ing to his studies at Veteri-
narian College in Guelph.
Pauline Hess was elected as
president of the Junior League
of the Evangelical Church in
Zurich, and the secretary is
Barbara Gascho.
Earl Dignan, of Hay Town-
ship, shot a large bird in a
tree this week, which turned
out to be an eagle with a wing
spread of six feet, six inches.

The n e w $112,000 public
school in the village of Hensall
will be officially opened on
October 18, with G. L. Duffin,
of the department of education,
doing the honors on the oc-
casion,
Thomas Sloan, of Seaforth,
escaped without a scratch early
Sunday morning when the car
he was driving left the road
between Hensall and Zurich and
ended up in a Glitch 15 feet be-
low the road, and filled with
three feet of water.
Reeve V, L. Becker, along
with clerk H. W. Brokenshire
and Albert Kalbfleisch, repre-
senting the Chamber of Conn-
merce, were in Goderich on
Tuesday in the interests of se-
curing some property along the
lake front for a possible public
park and picnic grounds.
Wayne Rowe has returned to
his home in Peterborough after
spending the past few months
in Zurich, where he was a mem-
ber of the pitching staff of the
Zurich Kings ball team.
