APRIL, 1917
Last Sunday night while driv-

Peter Neuseh\vanger's horse be-
came unmanageable and ran
aw. y. The buggy strueking a
cr.rasin•> at the side of the road
and the driver was thrown out,
landing some distance away,
bur ese'aped unhurt. The axle
of the buggy gave away and
tht horse got free of the rig,
which ‘‘as badly wrecked. The
horse ran into Johnston's shed
where it was captured,

choir leaders and organist of
Carmel Church, Hensall.

Zurich school this week,
The Lutheran Church congre-
gation has purchased a new
piano to be used in to Sunday
school,
Harry Yungblut has let his
order for a new Essex sedan
from H. Mousseau, agent.
Joseph Gascho has excanged
his Chev sedan for a new Essex,
also to Mr. Mousseau.
Farmers are busy with their
spring planting and the land
works up very good while the
weather is quite cool with frosts
nearly every night but the days
are nice and clear. What is
needed for a good growth is a
nice warm rain followed by
warm weather.

ed to the home of Mr. and Mrs.

radio technician.

when Mildred Alberta, only
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos
Smith, of Mount Albert, was
united in marriage to Kenneth
Case, son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon
Greb, Exeter, formerly of Hay
Township.

willing to give a helping hand.

A donation of $35,000 to be
applied to the construction of
the nurses' residence for South
Huron Hospital, Exeter, was an-
nounced by the board at the
hospital. . Donor is Dr. James
Bell, descendant of a prominent
Hensall family.

Set for Crediton.
The spring board meeting of
South Huron District Women's
Institute was held in Hensall
Tuesday, April 4, with the presi-
dent, Mrs. Fred Beer, in the
chair. .Mrs. Wilbert Dili.ing,
secretary -treasurer, read the
minutes and gave the treas-
urer's report. The roll call
showed 26 members present,

CENTENNIAL LADY — Mrs. Bob Borland,
of Grand Bend, was chosen the most charming.
Centennial lady at the Beard Beat which was held
in Zuhich earlier this month. Her gown, fashioned
of Centennial plaid, was judged the most original
and the most fashionable for the era which it was
depicting.

Discuss Fire Rates
Ilensall council met recently
with representatives of the sur-
rounding municipalities of Stan-
ley, Tuckersmith, Hibbert, Us -
borne an.cl Hay to set new fire
protection rates which will be
in effect immediately.
Ilensall volunteer fire bri-
gade will receive $80 for the
first hour of fighting outside
the village and $50 for each
additional hour.
The retaining fee was not ac-
cepted and will be discussed at
a further meeting on May 11
in Ilensall,
