A miscellaneous shower from
the nursing staff of Queensway
musing home for Miss Wilma
Branderhorst, bride -elect of this
month, was held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Klungel
Mo n d a y evening. Hostesses
for the evening were Mrs.
Klungel and Mrs. Don Volland.
Miss Branderhorst received
many lovely gifts. Games were
played and lunch served.
Mrs. Pearsy Graham, form-
erly of Hensall, is a patient in
Victoria Hospital, London.
Mrs. Lloyd Huffman, Blen-
heim, visited recently with Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Snell. Mrs. Don
Rigby returned home with her
after spending a week with Mr,
and Mrs, Stewart McQueen and
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snell.

Visits Rebekdhs
Regular meeting of Amber
Rebekah Lodge was held Wed-
nesday, April 5, 'with noble
grand Mrs. Lindsay Eyre pre-
siding. Disttrict -deputy presi-
dent Miss Jean Scott, of Sea -
forth, made her 'official annual
spring visit and spoke on "The
meaning of the Three Links".
Two past noble grands were
appointed to attend the assem-
bly session in Toronto in June.
The district meeting will be
held in Seaforth, April 12, in
the afternoon. All noble grands
are to attend. A few games of
bingo were played and lunch
served.

Legion Auxiliary
Help Red Cross
Mrs. Evelyn Carroll, of Goder-
ich, zone commander, paid her
.official visit to the Hensall Le-
gion Ladies' Auxiliary April
:meeting on Tuesday evening,
and was introduced by presi-
dent Mrs. Harold Campbell,
who chaired the meeting.
The meeting was informed
that $221;85 had been collected
in the recent canvass of the
village for the Red Cross.
Plans were outlined for the
annual penny sale to be held in
May; euchre party on April
20, and zone rally at Kincardine
on May 17.
Mrs. William Sma.le won the
mystery and guessing prizes.
A penny sale conducted by Mrs.
Garnet Allan and Mrs. Grant
MoClinchey realized a nice sum
of money.

RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP
Robert Mickle has been award
ed a scholarship amounting to
$3500, from the National Re-
search Council. He plans •to
further his education in the
field of science, at the Univers-
ity •of Western Ontario, leading
to his master degree in physics.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Laird Mickle, Hensall.

VARNA FOREIGN FEMMES
The sixth meeting of the
"Foreign Femmes" took place
on Tuesday last at the home of
Mrs. Allan Hayter. Nine mem-
bers were present and answer-
ed the roll call with "one thing
I already know about Scandi-
navia or Finland".
The discussion was based on
"northern Europe and Canadian
made cheese'. Marjorie Hayter
demonstrated how to make
"cabbage rolls" and Joyce Dow -
son and Darlene Hayter made
"rhubarb soup". The meeting
was closed by repeating the
4-H creed.

Pioneer Supper
Is Huge Success
The United Church Women
held a very successful pioneer
dinner Wednesday, April 5. The
tea tables were very artistically
arranged in old-tyme decor with
coal oil lamps flanked with
mums as one of the main at-
tractions.
The old-tyme costumes were
very colorful, and the girls who
waited on tables were dressed
in .pioneer costumes. Two hun-
dred and forty were served.
A program, arranged by Mrs.
James McAllister, who also pre-
sided, included a sing -song di-
rected by Miss Greta Lammie,
a pageant "A Salute to Can-
ada", by the Brownies; a quar-
tet, Sam Rannie, Ron Mock,
Harry Horton and Harry Hoy,
sang "Faith of Our Fathers"
and "Jesus Shall Reign"; solos
by Mrs. George Hess, in cos-
tuune, "Rocking along in your
old rocking chair (Mrs. J. E.
McEwen, also in costume, tak-
ing the role of the grand-
mother), "Let Me Call You
Sweetheart" and "My Mother's
Prayer"; duet, Carmen Currie
and Sherry Travers -who sang,
"Something to Sing About".
First, second .and third place
winners of grades 7 and 8 of
Hensall schood: Anne Keys,
Gordon Pryde and Doug Mock,
gave their speeches which won
them the prizes in a public
speaking contest. Mrs. Grant
MacLean favored with a read-
ing.
Mrs. Vern Alderdice, social
functions convenor for the
UCW, convened the dinner and
acted as hostess. Accompanists
for the evening were Miss Greta
Lammie and Mrs. William Fuss.

The eighth meeting •of the
Hensall Honeys took the form
of a Danish Smorrebrod when
•the girls met at the home of
Mrs. R. M. Peck on Monday,
April 10.
Debbie Anderson and . Pam
Taylor helped Mrs. Peck make
egg rolls, Debbie Anderson was
chosen to comment on the ex-
hibit at Achievement Day.
The next meeting will be
April 17, when Achievement
Day plans will be finalized.
Minutes were read by Cathy
Munn, and the meeting closed
with the 4-H pledge.

The Easter thank -offering
meeting of UCW Unit 4, of Hen-
sall United Church was held
Thursday afternoon with an at-
tendance of 27. Mrs. Janes Mc-
Allister, leader, presided and
presented the devotional on

"The Ascension and its mean-
ing". The study on "The United
Empire Loyalists and what they
had to do with our religion—
taking us back to pioneer days",
was given by Mrs. Fred Beer,
Miss Greta Laramie favored.
with a beautiful piano solo.
An interesting report was by
the friendship and visiting com-
mittee, and a statement on the
treasury by Mrs. T. J. Sherritt.
