It may take years. DEAR DORIS — My future - husband will be working nights, five nights a week. I have never spent a night alone in an empty house and I am afraid. I realize this is silly but my whole fam- ily have been like this since my father died two years ago, The hard part is that quite often I have nightmares in re- gard to death and I wake up, shaken up, and being all alone in the dark would not help mat- ters. My husband may not be able to get a day shift for years, so I have to fight this problem. I do not want to start bring- ing over my sisters to spend the night with me, as this would complicate things for everyone. Afraid At Night DEAR AFRAID—It's not silly. Many married women with ba- bies find themselves alone at night once in a while and don't like it. A convenient sister might visit occasionally, but five nights a week? For one thing, that night- mare business needs solving; which may mean bringing into the open your submerged and terrifying experiences with death. A session with a psychi- atrist—even one session—might be all you'd need. Then a talk with the police; the establishment of neighbor- ly relations with the people next door; a telephone you can ring in an emergency; these will all help you to sleep in peace. Don't, for heaven's sake, leave yourself so vulnerable that you pass on your fear of the dark aloneness to your own small fry, when they get there. DROP IN AND SEE OUR BEST FRIEND IS BACK—The sons of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Farwell, RR 3, Zurich, are noticeably happy about the re- turn of the family's pet German Shepherd dog last week. The animal strayed from home and was found near Nairn by Bill McIntosh. Mr. McIntosh noticed the dog's Hay Township tag and telephoned Clerk Whitney Brokenshire, supplied the dog's owner's name from the number. The Farwells were only too happy to make the trip to Nairn to retrieve the dog. AT SPECIALS :sTI.;cHous[ STICK IT OUT NURSIE DEAR DORIS — I would like to add a little to your answer to Nursie, because I am a regis- tered nurse and I think it is a wonderful profession. Training is hardbut you cer- tainly grow up quick . Things aren't handed to you on a silver plater. But isn't that life? I suggest that when the girls feel really blue a bunch of them should go to a show or out for a pop just to get out of residence for a while. They'll feel much better afterwards. Stick it out Nursie. Know- ing how to be a good nurse will help you all your life, whether you stay at nursing or decide to get married and raise a family. One Who Knows DEAR ONE — How true ! Sometimes married couples get so disgusted they would like to give up. But they put their chins up and keep going. After the rough time is past they are glad they stuck it out. Same with nursing — or anything tough and worth while. DEAR DORIS—My husband's VARNA NEWS The women's World Day of Prayer was held in the United Church last Friday afternoon. The president, Mrs. Mervyn Hayter, was in charge of the service. During the morning service in the United Church last Sun- day, two flower stands were dedicated by the pastor, Rev. M. Morrison, assisted by the president of the UCW, Mrs. Mervyn Hayter, and past presi- dent, Mrs. Robert Taylor. Dur- ing the past year five members were made life mebers of the UCW. They were Mrs. Lyle Hill, Mrs. Cartes Steick, Mrs. Percy Johnston, Mrs. Gordon Hill, Mrs. Fred McClymont, and the money from these member- ships was used to purchase the new flower stands. My suggestion is—if so—put the money in our 17 -month-old son's bank account — while we pay and decide ourselves (about a car, a new suit, etc.).
