SHE WANTS TO BE ALONE
DEAR DORIS — My husband
complains that it is like being
in another world away from me
in the mornings. I don't go
near the • kitchen until every-
body is out of the house, They
don't want bacon and eggs; just
juice, toast and jam.
If I am there, I am every-
body's slave. If I make the
lunch sandwiches, somebody is
bound to come home that eve-
ning and say, "There was too
much butter on my bread". Or
"not enough gravy on my meat".
I suppose this comes from hav-
ing a mother around and an
aunt who tried to do too much
for them.
Do you agree with me or with
my husband?
Peeved
DEAR PEEVED — Must I
take sides- Because there are
two sides.
A home -maker's days is long;
and she must often feel like
everybody's slave. The temp-
tation to avoid all the issues of
early morning is great.
Yet she is the home manager,
the morale builder, the love -
giver. People need love and
interest in the morning as at
any time of the day. Children
can still pack their own lunches
—but couldn't you be the one
who shows them how to make
it appetizing?
For that first hour or two
while you relax in bed, you are
in a world apart, aren't you?
DEAR DORIS — There is to
be a convention here of several
associations, one of which my
husband is the president. There
is to be a luncheon for the
ladies.
My problem is that I have
had polio and have partial par-
alysis in both legs. I use .a cane
for balance. How could I grace-
fully decline the luncheon with-
out going into details about my
legs?
So many things are a prob-
lem to me, stairs, toilets, etc.
Can't Manage
DEAR CAN'T—But you can.
I mean, some of the greatest
thinkers and doers of our times
have been grossly handicapped.
Awkward legs are a bother,
yes. But folks doubtless already
know your problem; if you
could handle it with poise,
seeking and being gratefuly for
a helping hand when you need
it, the ladies will admire and
love your cheery spirit.
What's the alternative? Not
only to miss a lot of fun, but to
miss sharing something your
husband finds very much worth
while.
DEAR DORIS — I have a
brother who has just had his
lath birthday. His birthday has

Young Sister
DEAR YOUNG SISTER —
When you are both ten years
older, you'll start appreciating
each other. Right now your
brother feels grown-up-ish and
loves it when he can make you
angry,
The trick is — Don't show
that he makes any impression.
It's just my brother; some- He'll stop!
