THURSDAY, JUICY 14" 1966 INVITING SCENERY—The summer season is a busy time for the harbor at Grand Bend as yachts and sail boats from all over the country visit the popular resort. This photo shows just a few of the many boats which are tied up along the docks in the river, as the owners are enjoying a holiday of boat cruising through the lakes. Some of the boats stay for a day or two while others only visit a few hours and move along to another destination. Huron TB Meet The regular meeting of the Huron County Tuberculosis As- sociation was held in Clinton Town Hall, Thursday, with Mr. G. A, Watt presiding. Routin reports were given by Miss Eileen O'Brien, J. E. McKinley, E. E. Walker, E. C. Boswell and Mrs. B. Davidson, Members were told there will be a nursing home survey in October and an educational dis- play at the International Plow- ing Match, possibly with equip- ment to take X-rays. Appreciation and best wishes were expressed to Dr. R. M. Aldis, Miss Louise Robertson and Mrs. S. McCrae, who are leaving the county. Zurich Kings Beat Mitchel! Lincolns Playing in Mitchell last Thurs- day night, the Zurich Kings came up with .a big 8-5 victory over the heavy -hitting Lincolns, in a six -inning contest. Al- though they were outhit 10-5, the Kings managed to make the most of their hits and shoved eight runs across the plate. Zurich scored six big runs in the first inning when they worked six bases on balls along with a hit batter and one single. Parkinson, on the mound for Mitchell, also hit one batter and threw two wild pitches, all in the first. They added the final run in the fifth when Phil Overholt was hit by the pitcher and then stole second, to score minutes later when Bob McNaughton singled. Mitchell scored one run in each of the second and third innings and then added three more in the fourth when they produced their best threat of the game. Doug O'Brien with a triple with two singles supplied the and a single and Dick Bedard Zurich batting punch, while Mc- Naughton added the other safety. Even though they banged 10 hits off him, Dick Bedardwas sharp on the Zurich mound, bearing down when he really had to. Only once, in the fourth inning, was he in any kind of trouble. 0 St. Boniface CWL A meeting of St. Boniface Catholic Women's League was held on July 12 with about 28 members present. The main topic of discussion was the ham and turkey supper to be served in the Zurich Arena on July 31, There will also be a fancy work booth and the .proceeds from the draw to be made that evening will go for the Blue Water Rest Home. FORE golfi3rs The pI•ayoffs for the men's club championship of Bayview are about to start, any members who are planing to compete will have to enter by Sunday, July 17. All starting matches will be arranged as evenly as possible and posted at the club house, players are asked to check to see who their opponents are and arrange the time of your game. A tournament of this type takes considerable time, therefore it is necessary that each match be played as soon as possible.. * * * Jim Broham won Iast week's hidden hole tournament shoot- ing a 78 for the 18 -hole fixture. Thirty-two members entered and all enjoyed the club's first tournament. All golfers received a prize for their efforts: firsts were golf hats; seconds, socks; with golf balls of varying prices making up the remainder of the prizes. Dashwood Tigers Tiim.Zurich 16-14 In Loosely Played Game The Dashwood Tigers last Sunday afternoon came up with a convincing 16-14 victory over the Zurich Kings, in a game that saw a total of 32 base hits slammed out. Of the 32, Dash- wood clobbered Zurih pitchers Jim Pfaff, Don O'Brien and Dick Bedard for a total of 18 hits, while the locals were bang- ing out 14 safeties off the slants of Bob Hoffman and Dave Ratz. The first big rally for the Tigers came in the initial stan- za when two men walked .and the third was hit by the pitcher. The big blow came when Art Rader slammed out a towering triple to deep centre field, to send all three runners across the plate, In the third inning Zurich came up with six big runs to take a temporary lead in the game. Three singles, one walk and 10 Dashwood errors aided the Kings' cause. • Dashwood came right back with two runs in their half of the'fourth inning on a base on balls, two hit batters and a sin- gle. Then in the sixth they staged their biggest rally of the game when they scored five big runs. They banged out four Two Local Youths At Hockey School Two members of the Zurich Minor Hockey system attended the Billy Harris hockey school at Etobicoke last week. They were Ray Weido, son •of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Weido, and John McKinley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob McKinley, all of RR 1, Zurich. Among instructors at the school were Billy Harris, Dave Keon, Johnny Bower and other NHL stars. The boys were given instructions on the ice as well as in class rooms, and spent a certain amount of the time in practice scrimmages. Similar schools are operated in various sections of Toronto throughout the summer months, and prove to be a great help to the younger stars of today. 84. Third low gross: John Robin- son, 87. Zurich fought back with three runs in the eighth on three singles and a double, and then added two more in the ninth when Hoffman weakened and walked two batters. A single by Bob Johnston scored the final two runs of the game. Art Rader was the individual batting hero of the game as he banged out four hits in five times at bat. Three of them assisted by were singles and the fourth a triple. Bob Hoffman and Gord Vincent were next in tine for the Tigers with three htts each, while Jini Hayter, Charles Tie - man and Ken Rader each bit safely twice, Dave Ratz and Mike Denomme pickers up a single each. For Zurich Phil Overholt pro- vided the batting punch with two singles and a doable in five trips to the plate. Bob Johnston, Earl Wagner, Don O'Brien and Rick Stade each picked up two safeties, while singles came off the bats of Doug O'Brien, Bruce Horton and Dick Bedard. The largest crowd of the sea- son was on hand to see the game, which lasted over three hours.
