Mr. and Mrs. Westlake were married on the Bronson Line, at the home of the bride's par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Delgaty, on April 22, 1916, after which the couple resided on the groom's farm south of Bay- field, Until a few years ago, Mr. Westlake farmed this farm. The .couple have two sons, Keith, •of Zurich, and Gordon, of RR 3, Bayfield. Friday, April 22, 1966, marked the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas West- lake, RR 3, Bayfield. Members •of the family joined with the bride and groom of 1916 for a delicious dinner at the Domin- ion Hotel, Zurich, on Saturday, April 23. On Sunday afternoon, April 24, Mr. and Mrs. Westlake wel- comed friends and neighbors at their home. Mrs. G. Bissett and son, Fred, and Miss Flora Hess, of Salford Heights, were visitors at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Hess, Sr., this week. During a heavy thunderstorm early last Thursday, lightning struck the residence of George Thiel, of the 14th concession. The chimney was knocked over, a portion of the roof ripped. off, windows were smashed and seventy sealers of fruit stored in the cellar were destroyed. The loss will be quite heavy to Mr. Thiel, although it is fully covered by the Hay Farmers' Fire Insurance Company. The new pipe organ, built by E. Lyle and Sons, Toronto, will be installed in the Evangelical Church this week. The dedi- catory service will be held on Sunday, April 30. On Monday evening, an organ recital will be given by the choir, assisted by Miss M. Oestericher, Dash- wood, graduate of the Conserv- atory of Music of N. W. Miss Anna Datars has re- turned home after spending a two months' visit with !friends at Kitchener. Mr. Claude Meidinger, who left for London a few weeks ago, has received a good posi- tion in a printing office. Claude learned to know the type case in the Herald office. Lloyd Hedden, of Zurich, spent the past week with his brother, Lee Hedden, of Hen- sall. Next Sunday being Easter, Rev. J. Durrant will give a special Easter message at each of his charges, Goshen, Blake and Varna. 25 Years Ago APRIL, 1941 Mr. Cyrus Schoch is holding an auction sale on Saturday, May 3, of his household effects. The family will then move to Sebringville where they have rented living quarters, We wish them every success in their new home. Mr. and Mrs. William Dowson have moved to their new home in Bayfield, which they pur- chased from Mr. Clarence Parke. During the past few years that they lived in Zurich, they have made many friends who regret very much to know of their de- parture, Mr. Dowson has dis- posed of his property in Zurich to Miss Frieda Haberer, who gets immediate possession. Dr. J. A. Addison and Mr. Morris Weber are busy erecting summer cottages on the lots they purchased from Mr. Philip Schade, on the lake front. Mr. E. F. Klopp and Sons apiarists, are erecting a large workshop and storage room on the lot on Edward Street, west of his dwelling property. Gaseho left on Mon- day to enjoy a few weeks with her sister, Mrs. Charles Carr, and Mr. Carr at Fort Worth, Texas. The trip there is being made by bus and return she will accompany Mr. and Mrs. Carr to Chicago, where Mr. Carr will attend a convention before coming to Zurich. Miss Marjorie Klopp, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Klapp, has • accepted a teaching posi- tion on the teaching staff of the Fort Erie High School. Her duties will commence in Sep- tember. Miss Anita Datars, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Datars, Jr., Zurich, who is on the Kitchener teaching staff, has returned from the hospital after an ap- pendix operation and is pro- gressing favorably. Baseball officials elected for the coming season are: presi- dent, Bill Siebert; vice-presi- dent, Milfred Schilbe; secre- tary -treasurer, Milton Oesch; finance committee, Bill O'Brien, Lee Willert and Charles Thiel. Mr. Peter Cundy, a staff mem- ber of the Bank of Montreal, was appointed manager of the team.
