Stewart Proctor of Morris Town-
ship, Robert Potheringham, of
RR 3, Seaforth, the 1965 world
hay champion, was given an
ovation for winning the award.
Huron County has won five of
the eight championships and
two reserves since the hay
championship competitions be-
gan.
Speakers were Reeve Thomas
Leiper, of Hullett Township,
chairman of the agricultural
committee of county council;
Warden •Glenn Webb; 'district
director James Barrie, of RR 7,
Galt; Paul Fish, soils and crop
specialist for Huron County;
Murray Gaunt, MP (L—Huron-
Bruce), and Robert McKinley,
MP (C—Huron).
Guest speaker, Dr. Stanley
Young, crops science depart-
ment, University of Guelph,
predicted future market expan-
sion. Dr. Young said in the
United States in the past few
years consumption has been
greater than production with
surpluses being depleted.
He said need for more pro-
duction is good for the farmer.
All-out production will see
many changes in technology,
special advisors and better train-
ing for young people. Expan-
sion in the growing of corn
alone he said could result in
this area supplying the needs
in Ontario and having a surplus
for Quebec and the Maritimes.
