Exhibition Gane Saturday Night
Will Benefit Minor Hockey Groups
Minor Hockey Week will be
celebrated across Canada next
week, and to start off the pro-
ceedings an outstanding event
has been planned for the Hen-
sall Arena this Saturday night.
The Hensall-Zurich Combines
(oldtimers version) will take on
the high -flying Exeter Junior
Hawks, 'vho are being coached
by Earl Wagner. Among those
on the line-up for the oldtimers
will -he such faces as Bill Shad -
dick, Bob Johnston. Steve Kyle,
Larry Bedard. and Dennis Am-
acher, only to mention a few,

The largest chain of inland
fresh water lakes in the world
has gradually become a source
of concern for both countries,
and below average precipitation
and mild winters with little
snow are burned for the steady
drop in water levels.
In this area. Grand Bend has I
been plagued with increasing

hardships caused by the unus-
ually shallow waters in Lake
Huron

Bath industry, tourism and
fishing, upon which the village
is almost entirely dependant,
have been hampered. Residents
there are seeking assistance
from federal and provincial J
sources.
Briefs will be submitted to
the commission from t'ie On -1
iario Water Resources Commis -1
sion, Ontario Hydro, depart-
ment
of lands and forests. de-
partment of tourism and infor-
mation and the department of
economies and development.
A conference last summer is
believed to have touched off
this international joint commis-
sion investigation, seen as the
first concrete action in a step
to find a solution.
The joint commission has jur-
diction in the use or diversion
of L'S -Canada boundary waters.

ning will be divided between
the Hensall and Zurich Minor
Hockey associations. Advance
tickets are being sold this week
by members of various minor
teams in both communities.
Coaching the oldtimers ver•
sion of the Hensall-Zurich Com-
bines will be Bob McKinley.
who guided the team through to
the all -Ontario championship'
last year. His rival coach will
be Earl Wagner, who this year
is serving in a dual -role of play-
ing coach of the Exeter squad.
Last year 'Wagner was a mem-
ber of the H- Combines, so this
game will see him with a few
other members of his elub, pit-
ted against last year's team -
The evening promises to be
an outstanding event and should
provide plenty of entertainment
for both young and old. As
well, the entire proceeds are
for a worthy cause. The slogan
for minor hockey week is, "take
your boy, don't send hint, to' the
arena". This slogan can be
carried out Saturday night,
when as many parents as possi-
ble are urged to take their chil-
dren to the Hensall Arena for
the bale evening.

ding anniversary on January 20
at their farm home in Tucker -
smith Township. Mrs. MacLean
is the former Myrtle Mahaffy
of Mitchell. They have three

Zurich Juveniles on Rampage; Win.
Two More Games During Past Week
The Zurich MAA Juveniles
came up with two big victories
during the past week's activi-
ties, trouncing Centralia Jets
9-2 and then edging Blyth 6-5
on their .home ice Monday night.
Three players each scored
two goals in the one-sided win
over Centralia, Ken Westlake,
Bob Miller and Bob Hoffman.
Single counters were picked up
by Robert Bannister, Bill Schade
and Ross Fisher.
Both teams scored once in
the firrst period, and then in
the second Zurich came up with.
three big goals while their op-
ponents were held off the score
sheet. In the third stanza the
locals came up with five more
big goals, while the Jets scored
once.
Rick Stade, in the Zurich nets,
played a sensational game, stop-
ping many drives that were
labelled for sure goals.
A total of 16 penalties were
handed out in the game, with
Centralia serving nine of thein.

before an enthusiastic home
crowd, the Zurich MAA Juven-
iles came through with a thrill-
ing 6-5 victory over Blyth. Six
players, Barry Block, Bob Hoff-
man, Bill •Schade, Ken West-
lake, Bob Miller and Charlie
Becker each scored one goal.
The hamsters scored two
goals in each period, while the

visitors scored nee in the first
and twice in both the second
and third periods.
Garry Geoffrey played an out-
standing game in the nets for
the Zurich six.
Eighteen penalties were call-
ed in the game, with ten going
to the visitors and eight to the
locals,
Next home game for the Zur-
ich crew will be next Monday
night, when they play hosts to
the Centralia Jets in the Zurich
Arena.
