Miss Pearl Wurtz, Mr. Eldon Bender, Mr. Harold Widrick, Obituary Alice Johnston Word was received here of the passing of Miss Alice John- ston, 86, of 675 King Street, W., Kitchener, who died Decem- ber 16, 1964, at the K -W Hos- pital following a three-week ill- ness of pneumonia. The deceased, the second youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston, was born in Zurich and lived most of her life :here. When the family moved to Kitchener, she became an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the Canadian Red Cross Society. The body rested at the Ratz- Bechtel funeral home until Fri- day, December 18, when the service was conducted, with burial in Fairway Cemetery, Baden. Miss Johnston was the last sister of the family. Mr. Henry Flaxbard and Mr. Gordon Hess are all patients in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. 0 HENSALL Memorial flowers in the church sanctuary at the United Church Sunday morning last were placed by Mrs. Stewart Blackwell, in loving memory of her father, Mr. Clinton Sweet. Ray McKenzie has returned from a five -weeks' vacation spent in Montreal, New York City, Miami Beach, New Or- leans, Mexico City, most of his travelling was done by plane. He reported a most enjoyable holiday. Miss Sylvia Henderson is vis- iting her sister and brother-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Lind- say, and family at Willowdale, Mr. Percy Webster is a pa- tient in South Huron Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle and Bill spent last Friday in Kitchener vvisiting the former's son-in-law, Mr. Ross MacMillan, and son David. Mrs. Mickle also visited her daughter and new son in Kitchener -Waterloo Hospital. Mrs. Robert Pinner and Deb- bie, London; Mts. Ross McCance and Monnie, St. Thomas; Mrs. Stewart Bell, Pauline and Troy- ann, Hensall, left for Dundas Thursday to attend the figure skating competitions Friday and Saturday. Mr. Bell and Mr. Pinner will join them Saturday. Local Zurich Council Buys Rider Protection For Personal Injury Zurich village council has taken steps to protect them- selves against charges of libel, s 1 a n d e r, misappropriation of funds and defamation of char- acter, among other things. Reeve Milton Oesch said he believed that the "personal in- jury" rider to the village's ex- isting Libel Policy would pro- tect council members in any event, including charges arising from news stories in the press. Cheap Insurance Council agreed that the addi- tional $20.56 premium per an- num would be inexpensive in- surance over the years, W. B. Coxon pointed out that the best insurance was for coun- cillors and reeves to "weigh their words carefully" but sup- ported the move to add the rider to the policy. Reeve Oesch said that while present council members were able to sit crown and do village business orderly and in agree- ment, future councils may not always be so amicable. The insurance will he pur- chased through the J. W. Ha- berer Insurance Company, Zur- ich, and the Frank Cowan In- surance Company, Woodstock. Mrs. Patri- cia Meidinger was again chosen as the secretary -treasurer. The six -man board was elect- ed by acclamation. Three trus- tees will hold office for two years while the remaining three are in for only one year. The business was conducted by the vice-president, Mrs. Hobbs Taylor. Group 1 will be in charge of the supper for the annual meeting. The Sunshine committee is Mrs. Howard Klumpp and Mrs. Lloyd Guen- ther. A new member joined the society. Mrs. Mary Ann Tiernan Mrs. Mary Ann Tiernan, 93 widow of Ezra Tiernan, former operator of hotel and butcher shop in Dashwood, passed away at Huronview, Clinton, Satur- day, January 9. Surviving are two sons, Addison, of Dash- wood, and Dr. Eugene Tiernan, of Don Mills. One son, Ira, and a daughter, Pearl, Mrs. Garnet Wildfong), predeceased her. Also 11 grandchildren survive. The funeral was held from the T. Harry Hoffman funeral home, Tuesday, January 12. Rev. Merril James officiated. Pallbearers were Niel and Grant Wildfong, Donald and William Weigand, Russel and George Tie man. Mrs. Tiernan was the last charter member of the EUB Ladies' Aid.
