Councils Need
Government Book
During the last meeting of
Grand Bend council for 1964,
ousted councilman Ian Coles, of
London, spoke at length to his
former colleagues.
Coles, also a property owner
in the village, strongly advised
that council pay stricter aten-
tion to parliamentary proce-
dure.
He suggested that senior gov-
ernment should issue all muni-
cipal councils with a set of rules
on the subject. He hinted that
local councils are not nearly as
effective as they could be if
some format for meetings was
given adherence.
He noted that he had not
been too popular on council be-
cause he hed a mind of his own
and was not afraid to speak it,
"I don't think a man has
much principle about him," he
said, "if he is not ready to stand
behind his convictions."
Coles lost his seat on the
Grand Bend council to new-
comer John Teevins. Teevins
is married to the former Sheila
Schilbe, of Zurich, and the
couple have one son, Robbie.
