News of HENSALL District
Miss Pauline Bell was the
guest of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Chappel and Janet, Sarnia, this
past week and attended the
Briarwood Arena Skating
School where Pauline passed a
dance test, "Willow Waltz",
Mr. and Mrs. Jim McAllister
have just returned from a trip
to Colorado, California and
British Columbia.
First Hensall Brownie Pack
started regular meetings Tues-
day, September 29. During the
Fairy Ring ceremonies, Mrs.
Rodger Vennet was enrolled as
Tawny Owl by the Brown Owl,
Mrs. Robert Cook. Mrs. Barry
Jackson joined the Pack as Sec-
ond Tawny.
At the First Hensall Guide
Company meeting, Mrs. Lillian
'Baker was enrolled as Captain
by Brown Owl, Mrs. Robert
Cook. Mrs. Robert Caldwell was
appointed Lieutenant. The fol-
lowing Guides attended a Pa-
trol Leaders' Training at the
Salvation Army Camp at Bay-
field over the week -end: Cheryl
Mousseau, Betty Cameron, Jane
Smith, Janice Bonthron, Caro-
lyn Cook.
Hensall WI Agriculture and
Canadian Industries meeting
will be held Wednesday, Octo-
ber 14, in the Legion Hall at
8:15 p.m. Special guests will
be the Staffa and Z u r i c h
branches. Guest speaker will
be Mr. Walter Spencer. Roll
call: A Canadian town and an
.industry for which it is noted.
Ross Sararas, of RR 1, Crom-
arty, was the lucky winner of
50 silver dollars in a Kinsmen
draw last Thursday night. Presi-
dent John Baker drew the win-
ning ticket.
Mrs. Charles Stephenson fell
in her home early Saturday
morning and suffered a frac-
tured hip. She is a patient in
St. Joseph's Hospital, Londoon.
Mrs. fIarry Caldwell under-
went surgery in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, last Thurs-
day,
Mrs. Ross Haugh and Linda,
Mrs. George Hess, Mrs. W. G.
Weekes and Mrs. J. E. McEwen
attended the play, "The Farm-
er's Daughter", at the Shakes-
perean Theatre last Wednesday.
Harold Bonthron has received
word from the Sealy Mattress
Co., of Toronto, that he has won
a trip to Rome for selling the
most mattresses. He will be
one of a hundred salesmen who
will be leaving October 15 by
jet for a two weeks' vacation.
Mrs. J. E. McEwen attended
the 26th birthday party of the
Order of the Eastern Star, Ex-
eter, held Friday evening at
Trivitt Parish Hall.
Mrs. Roy Smale and Mrs. Wil-
liam Forrester, president and
sercetary of the Hensall Legion
Ladies' Auxiliary, have returned
from North Bay, where they
were delegates at the Legion
Auxiliary convention.
Mrs. Robert Spence, Stephen,
Sandra and Bobby, who have
been residing in the Fink apart-
ments on Nelson Streets, left
this' week for Ottawa where
they will spend two weeks with
the former's parents prior to
leaving for their home in Cold
Lake, Alta. LAC Spence is on
course at Clinton RCAF Station.
Jim and Jean Taylor have
rented the former IGA store in
Hensall and will be specializing
in children's ready-to-wear but
featuring other lines as well.
They expect to be open for
business the middle of October.

Group Plan For
Fall Activities
The UCW Unit 4 met Thurs-
day afternoon, October 1, with
Mrs. James McAllister presid-
ing. Program conveners were
Mrs. W. B. Cross and Mrs. Sher-
ritt. Mrs. Murray gave the de-
votional, using Thanksgiving as
her theme. The message was
most inspiring and stressed the
many things for which we
should be most thankful and
appreciative.
Miss Greta Laramie and Mrs.
T. Sherritt favored with a musi-
cal number. The study was
given by Miss Ellis on the "Ira-
provements in India since 1947"
and the difficulties with which
the government has been faced
and are still trying to over-
come.
During the business session
plans were made for the gen-
eral meeting on October 13 with
Unit4 in charge.
Members were alos reminded
of the bazaar and the regional
meeting to be held in Cen-
tralia on October 23.
Mrs. Laird Mickle reported
that her group had made 19
calls to the sick and shut-ins.
The meeting closed with
prayer.

Miss Hazel Slavin, who is at-
tending university at Ann Har-
bor, Mich., spent the week -end
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Slavin.
Mr, and Mrs. John Sinclair
leave Friday by plane for Palo
Alto, California, to visit their
daughter, Marie, who is nursing
at Stanford Medical Centre.
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Parsons
visited recently with Mrs. Ger-
ald Parsons and baby daughter
at the Ingersoll hospital.
William Bere, of Arva, and
Stanley Jackson, RR 2, Kippen,
attended Little Current sale of
feeder cattle on Tuesday at
Manitoulin Island.
Mrs. A. Parsons, accompanied
by Mrs. Harold Parsons, of Sea -
forth, and Mrs. Kenneth Broom,
of Hensall, attended a shower
Friday night at Lucan in honor
of Miss Kay Little.
Herb Mousseau, of Zurich,
and Elzar Mousseau, of Kippen,
are away north on a moose
hunting trip.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parsons,
of Seaforth, visited Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Parsons.
While the teenage population
accounts for 29% of all acci-
dents, those involved in driver
education courses through high
schools and other sources have
a better driving record.
