Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Cook re-
turned home Thursday after a
pleasant holiday spent with
their daughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs, Gary H. Corlett, at
their cottage, Balm Beach, On-
tario.
Mr. and Mrs, Frank Welsh,
Stanley and Shirley, of Ver-
million, Alta., who have spent
almost a month touring the
provinces as far as Montreal
and Quebec City, spent a few
days last week with their cous-
ins, Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle,
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Moir and
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Edwards
enjoyed a delightful week -end
at Brockville and the Thousand
Islands.
Mrs J. H. Martyn, of Van-
couver, is vacationing with her
sister and brother-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Lenaghan,
and family. It is 12 years since
the sisters last saw each other.
The Misses Amy and Greta
Lammie are holidaying for a
week at Lake Joseph Holiday
Centre.
Mrs. J. D. Reid, of London,
and Mr. Ray Reid, of Port
Hardy, B.C., visited recently
with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snell.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Rigby and
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Knights, of
Blenheim, spent the week -end
with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snell.
Stewart and Jane Knights re-
turned home with them after
spending the past two weeks
with the Snells.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Varley
and Kenny spent the week -end
holiday at Niagara Falls.
Mrs. Carl Payne and Mary
left by jet Sunday, August 2,
for Oceanside, California, where
they will vacation for two
weeks.
Mrs. Gus Voth, of Royal Oak,
Mich., has returned after spend-
ing a few days with her mother,
Mrs. L. Simpson.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Campbell
have taken up residence in the
Fink apartment on Nelson
Street.
David Vanstone, 2, who has
been a patient in South Huron
Hospital, Exeter, has returned
home. He is the son of Mir.
and Mrs. Roland Vanstone.
Mrs. John Henderson, who
recently returned from South
Huron Hospital, Exeter, where
she was a patient for several
weeks, has returned to the hos-
pital.

Allan, who left Sunday, August

2, for a week's vacation at Stur-
geon Falls, have returned home,
Mrs. Pat Flannery, Patsy and
Shawn, of London, were recent
visitors with Mr, and Mrs, Al-
fred Smith,
Mr, and Mrs. Perce Phillips,
Toronto, were recent guests
with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beer.
Corporal Don Haven, Mrs.
Haven, Keith, Debbie and Bar-
bara, recent guests with Mr.
and Mrs. W. J. Cameron and
family, and other friends in the
village, have returned to Por-
tage La Prairie.
Mr. and Mrs. Eric Kennedy,
who have been vacationing at
Fenelon Falls, have returned
home.
Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Orr spent
a few holidays visiting with
Mrs. Dorothy McDonald, Ailsa
Craig, Mr. and Mrs. James E.
Orr, Parkhill, and Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Glover at Arkona.
Miss Ann Mickle is spending
this week in London holidaying
with Miss Sharon Riley.
Mrs. R. H. Middleton is a pa-
tient at St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, where she underwent
surgery this week.
Master John Martene, of
Crediton, has been holidaying
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
James Orr and Barbara.
Visitors with Mrs. Violet
Schwalm and Ray are Sergeant
Carl Schwalm, Mrs, Schwalm,
Ricky and Terry, of Petawawa,
who will vacation here for three
weeks; Mrs. Arthur O'Hara and
Peter, of Belleville, who will
spend a week's .holiday, and
week -end guests at the Schwalm
hone were Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Hansen, Stratford.
Mrs. Laurene McKenzie and
Joan Allan visited for a few
days last week with Mr. and
Mrs. Wilson Allan, of near Sea -
forth.
Tractor Fire
Hensall firemen were called
to the farm home of Alex Mc-
Murtrie, Kippen district farmer,
to extinguish a tractor fire. Mr.
McMurtrie had been filling the
tank from the gas pump when
some spilled over causing it to
ignite and causing extensive
damage to the tractor. Laverne
Harburn, of Hensall, who was
sitting on the tractor at the
time, quickly jumped off.
Miss Louise Jones, of London,
spent the week -end at her home
here.
Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Davis,
Michael and Kay, are vacation-
ing at the lake for the week of
August 9.

inspiring message, and offici-
ated for the baptism of Gregory
Ian, infant son of Mr. and Mrs,
Al Hoggarth, who received the
rites of baptism, The choir,
under the direction of Mrs. Mal-
colm Dougall, sang an anthem.
Flowers in the church sanctuary
were in memory of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Basil Edwards,
placed there by Mrs. Johnston,

friends honored her at a mis-
cellaneous shower in the Hen-
sall United Church school rooms
in pink and white motif and
gladioli.
Deanna Forrest provided
piano music prior to the party.
Soloist, Mrs. Harold Currie,
sang, "I Love You Truly". Mrs.
Frank Forrest was accompan-
ist, who also contributed a med-
ley of piano solos.
A feature of the evening was
the presentation of a mock wed-
ding with roles portrayed by
Mrs. Ken McLean and Gwen;
Mrs. Harold Parker and Patsy;
Mrs. Murray Traquair and Nan-
cy; Mrs. Wilmer Dalrymple and
Wilma; Mrs. Ross Forrest, Nan-
cy and Deanna; and Mrs. Stan-
ley Mitchell.
Assisting the bride -elect in
opening the lovely gifts were
Mrs. Ross Forrest; Mrs. Miller,
Staffa; Mrs. Ken McLean and
Mrs. Stanley Mitchell.
of St. Catharines, a niece of
Mrs. Edwards.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Armstrong,
of Longueuil, P.Q., have re-
turned after a delightful two
weeks' vacation spent with their
daughter and son-in-law, LAC
Clarence Hoy, Mrs. Iloy, Ronnie
and Gary, of Exeter. During
their vacation they spent a week
at a cottage at Port Albert, leav-
ing Sunday for Montreal. They
enjoyed their vacation down
here and had a wonderful time
visiting various places of in-
terest.
Garnet Allan is a patient in
Victoria Hospital, London, re-
ceiving treatment for an injured
left hand received in an acci-
dent 'when a grain hoist at a
local mill fell on his hand,
crushing it. End of his middle
finger was removed and specia-
lists hope to save his finger.
He will be in hospital for two
weeks.
Obituary
Mrs. Fred Hemery
Mrs. Fred G. Hennery, 78,
passed away in a nursing home
in Carleton Place on Sunday,
August 9. She was the former
Margaret A. McQueen, daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs, John
McQueen. She was predeceased
by her husband in 1944.
