At Civic Banquet Friday Night
Members of the Hensall-Zur-
ich Combines hockey club were
honoured at a banquet last Fri-
day night in the Hensall Arena.
when close to 200 loyal fans
turned ,out for the occasion
Master of ceremonies was Rob-
ert Reaburn,
Head table guests at the
event were Jack Oakes, repre-
senting the OHA; Don Buddo,
representing the Shamrock Hoc-
key League; Harold Knight, for
the councils of Hensall and Zur-
ieh; Bruce Horton, captain of
the championship team; George
Beer, team manager, and Bob
McKinley, coach.
Guest speaker was to have
been Bobby Haggart, trainer of
the Toronto Maple Leafs, who
was to be accompanied by a
member of the team, but no-
body from the Toronto organ-
ization showed up. (This is the
second time this season that
representatives from the Toron-
to organization failed to show
up at hockey banquet in West-
ern Ontario. A couple of weeks
ago, Eddie Shack was to have
been the guest at Blyth, but he
failed to make an appearance
there.)
Due to the absence of the
guest speaker, Mr. Oakes spoke
briefly congratulating the team
on winning the Ontario title.
He also stated that the good
crowds which have been attend-
ing the games during the past
years have been a great help
to the players. Mr. Oakes was
introduced by Mr. Reaburn, and
thanked on behalf of the team
by Steve Kyle.
For the councils of Hensall
and Zurich, Harold Knight pre-
sented each member of the
team with a small gift, in appre-
ciation of the honour brought
to the two communities.
Manager George Beer and
coach Bob McKinley presented
each player with an attractive
leather jacket, in honour of
their winning the Ontario title.
Each player was also given a
photo of the group.
Bill Shaddiek and Bruce Hor-
ton, on behalf of the players,
presented a gift to both Beer
and McKinley, as
a token of
their appreciation.
The dinner at the banquet
was served by a group of volun-
teer ladies, who turned over the
profits from the venture to the
Crippled Children's Society.
