William Zettel, of Elbow, Saskatchewan, is at present vis- iting with his brother and other relatives in this area. It is at least 20 years ago that Mr. Zet- tel left this area for the west, and this is the first time he has returned for a visit. Mr, T. L. Wurm has made arrangements to re -open a store for business in the section of the Melick hardware store which has recently been used for displaying furniture. This means that within another week Mr. Wurm will again have a good stock of groceries avail- able for his customers. The interior of the Methodist Chureh in Brussels was com- pletely destroyed by fire, with the damage amounting to about $10,000. 25 YEARS AGO MARCH, 1939 Mr. Campbell McKinley, of Stanley Township, is having his buildings wired for hydro service, A change has been made in the ownership of Thiel's Trans- port business in Zurich, with brothers Charles and Earl hav- ing purchased the business from their father. The farm show sponsored by V. L. Becker, of Dashwood, at- tracted about 800 district farm- ers to the Lutheran Church shed, despite the bitter cold March wind. Many district farmers have started tapping their sugar bushes, but to date the weather has not been to favorable for a good run. Fire last Monday completely destroyed the Arkona Knitting Mills, a factory which was emp- loying about 40 or 50 people. Mr. Ferd Haberer, of Zurich, met with a very painful acci- dent one day last week, when in some way his thumb and fingers got mixed up with an electric power saw he was op- erating. Mr. Leeland Willert has had a modern and up-to-date soda fountain installed at his Snack Shoppe in Zurich. A delegation from the Zurich Lions Club, consisting of Charles Thiel, George Deichert, Earl Yungblut, William Siebert and Jacob Haberer, met with of- ficials in Toronto regarding a grant for a new Arena which is under construction in the vil- lage of Zurich. They were in- formed they could receive a grant of 25 per cent, up to an expenditure of $40,000. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Brod- erick and family have returned to their home north of Hensall after spending the bigger part of the winter in Arizona. Mr. Eric Mcllroy, of Grand Bend, is busy at the present time getting his four race horses ready for the summer season ahead. The board of directors and secretary -treasurer of the Zur- ich Agricultural Society enjoyed a sumptuous banquet last Wed- nesday night at the home of their president, Mr. and Mrs, Fred Haberer, 10 YEARS AGO MARCH, 1954 One of the worst snow storm: in years visited these parts lase week, when all of the road.: throughout the area were block ed for several days. Mr. Edgar Schnell, of Kam loops, B.C. was a visitor lass week in Zurich with his rela tives, Mr. and Mrs. Al Kalb fleisch. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hayter and family have moved into the apartment owned by Mr. Harry Hoffman, in Dashwood. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Koehler also moved into the apartment connected with their store, while Mr. and Mrs. Dan Weber moved into the house they purchased from Mr. Koehler. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Heywood, of Wingham, are on a trip to Cleveland this week, where he is doing some work for a radio and television station for a few days. 0 HENSALL Mr. and Mrs. Ross Christian, Toronto; Charles Mickle, Ham- ilton, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Laird Miekle and Ann. The annual meeting of the UCW Presbyterial of Huron will he .held March 18, 9:30 a.m. •and 1:30 p.m. in James Street United Church, Exeter. Follick Hensall and district residents learned with regret of the pass- ing of George H, Follick, one of the community's most beloved and highly esteemed residents. He was a life-long resident of the village. and died in South Huron District Hospital, Exeter, 0,10 on Friday evening, March 6, having been admitted as a pa- tient that day, He was in his 86th year. Mr. Follick was a former man ager for 40 years, of the Wil- liam Rennie Seed Plant at Hen- sall, retiring five years ago. He was closely connected with the Hensall United Church all his life, an honorary member of the Session, and he also took an active part in community and political affairs.
