Thinking Day is the joint birthdays of the Founder and of the World Chief Guide. Each year on "Thinking Day" Girl Guides throughout the world give -special remem- brance to "international friend- ship", The Girl Guides of Hen- sall have a display of the work they do each week, in the win- dow of Hess's jewellery store, on Main Street. The Explorers of Carmel Pres- byterian Church held their meeting Thursday •afternoon, when a motion was passed that the Explorers hold their meet- ing every second week. The ex- pedition for the next four meet- ings will be, "What Is a Chris- tian". Mrs. Pheobe Weber, 94, life- long resident of Zurich, has been admitted as a patient at Queensway' Nursing Home, Hen- sall. Chiselhurst UCW, on Tuesday ,of this week, completed two fancy custom quilts, with the youngest member of the group, five-year-old Marilyn Brintnell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brintnell, keeping up with the ladies quilting a .doll quilt. It was her second one and she made a fine job of it, too. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Richardson (nee Shirley Bender), a bridal couple, were honored at a re- ception held in Zurich Com- munity Centre on Saturday eve - Obituary Thomas Baird Thomas Baird, of Brucefield, insurance agent for 30 years, passed away in Clinton Public Hospital, Thursday, February 20, in his 80th year. He was the son of Mrs, Agnes Baird, who passed away January 24 this year, six days before she would have observed her 104th birth- day. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Aikenhead, one son, Stewart, RR 1, Bruce - field, and three grandchildren. Masonic services, Britannic Lodge 170, A.F.&A.M., of which he was a member, was held on Friday, at 9 p.m., and the funeral was held Saturday, with burial in Baird's Cemetery. ning. Robert Love, of Palo Alto, California, visited with his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Love for a few days last week. He flew by jet plane by way of Vancouver to Toronto. Mrs. Oliver Geiger, who has spent the past two months with Mr. and Mrs. Eric Kennedy and Mr, Ira Geiger, returned to her ,home at Fonelon Falls on Mon- day of this week. UCW Unit 3 Unit 3 of the UCW met Mon- day evening with 18 in atten- dance for their February meet- ing, chaired by leader Mrs. Ron Mock. Mrs. Jean. Corneil con- ducted the devotional, assisted by Mrs. Robert Cook and Mrs. Robert Lambie, using the theme "Religion and Life". Mrs. Pearl Passmore presented the Bible study, "Introduct.ion into the writings of the Old Testament". It was decided to hold an order bake sale on May 9. Several suggestions for money -making projects were discussed. Mrs. William Mickle conducted a contest and the winners were Miss Mary Goodwin and Mrs. Wilmer Ferguson. Miss Sharon Beckler, of Zur- ich, was a weekend guest with Miss Barbara Schwalm. Alvin Lavery, of Hensall, who will celebrate his 16th birthday on Saturday, February 29, only has a birthday every four years, Alvin, a leap year baby, almost missed the boat when he arrived into the world at exactly two minutes to 12 p.m. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Lavery, of Hen- sall, he is a grade 10 student at South Huron District High School.
