And tree colors! Some of the most unusual and beautiful ef- fects can be achieved very eas- ily by choosing the right color for your tree, together with colored lights selected to com- plement the room decor. These are a beauti- ful magenta red, with clear glass, that really do sparkle. They are on the market this year for the first time. It's suggested you purchase the string and socket wire separ- ately, then select the red spar- kle lights to fill the sockets. A living room with blue walls, and furniture and rug in blues, greens and white, would look really attractive with a Christmas tree painted white, and decorated with tur- quoise and green Lighted Ice lights. These are also new this year — a large globe of light with chips of 'ice" all over it. When lit they create a beautiful wintry look that is quite unusual and attractive. For the traditional living room, with green walls, and chintz covered furniture and dark woodwork, there is noth- ing like the natural green tree decorated with a mixture of red, green, yellow and blue sparkle lights. For a more formal living room, with beige walls and neutral furnishings, try a gold tree decorated with gold and white lighted ice lights. Another color combination that may apply to your living room is muchroom walls, with greens, pinks and browns in upholstery and rug. This would be set off by a pink tree, de- corated with mixed snowball lights. These snowball lights, incidentally, come in six beauti- ful pastel shades when lighted. When turned off, they instant- ly become white as snowballs -- a lovely decorative light even when not burning. As a general rule of thumb, however, the good old natural green tree covered with mixed glow lights will always be at- tractive, in any room, and in any decorating scheme. A word about gold and sil- ver trees: Use them carefully, for they can be a very strong feature of a room. They are rather sophisticated, and suit a larger living room done in more formal style, or a hallway. They are lovely as a shall tree, particularly in a small apartment where they will stand out without becoming too dominant. Try your hand at it, and you'll discover that decorating the Christmas tree can be creative as well as lots of fun, especially by blending the many new colors and styles of Christmas lights now available. 0 Sometimes Christmas is writ- ten Xmas because "X" is the Greek equivalent of "ch" and stands for the word "Christ." How To Bow! Fivepins 4448.4 How to Master 'Spot Bowling To get your ball down to the target at the end of the bowl- ing lane most accurately and most effectively, "Spot" bowl- ing is by far the most effective aiming system to use. The idea of spot bowling sounds a little strange at first— what you do is try to hit a tar- get without looking at it. But, the method works so well that many expert bowlers wouldn't think of bowling any other way. Instead of trying to hit the pins, which are 60 feet away, you try to roll your ball over a fixed "spot" which is about 15 feet away from the foul line. Of course, being so close, this spot is much easier to hit than the pin at the end of the lane. And, if you have lined yourself up correctly, the ball will naturally continue on to its target. Getting yourself lin- ed up correctly depends on the type of ball you throw. It is the key to spot bowling, and we'll be devoting several col- umns to it. First you must un- derstand the basic idea: The principle is much like aiming a rifle. And, in fact, all modern bowling lanes are now equipped with scientifi- cally placed "darts," spott- BLAKE (Mrs. Amos Gingerich, correspondent) Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Ginger- ich and family Mr. Doug Langs, Mr Harold Martin, Miss Janet Wideman, and Mr. John Ben- der, were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Gingerich and family. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gin- gerich and daughters, Norma Jean and Elaine, were Sunday guests with the former's par- ents, Mr. and, Mrs. Peter Gin- gerich. Mrs. Elizabeth Oescch has returned to her home after spending a few weeks with re- latives and friends at Crediton. Master Ricky Penhale spent with his great Mrs. Elizabeth By Bert Garside and Jim Hoult Chief Bowling Instructors Double Diamond Advisory Council ed in front of the foul line, which are called "range find- ers." You use them like gun sights. The spot near the foul line where you deliver the ball is the rear sight. The dart over which you roll the ball is the front sight. The pin is the tar- get. Once you have lined up your "sight," you don't look at the pin again. You just con- centrate on rolling the ball over the spot. Two Methods of 'Spot' Bowling To change your aim, you, swing your aiming line, just as you would swing a rifle. There are two ways you can do this. You can keep your same position on the lane, but aim your ball to roll over a differ- ent dart—thus switching your "front sight." Or, you may change your position on the ap- proach, but roll every ball over the centre dart — thus swit- ching your "rear sight." Either way is equally effec- tive. But, use one or the oth- er. Don't try to combine the two methods or you will end up completely confused. It is important that you stick to one method of sighting, be- cause the way you compensate for different types of delivery, or different kinds of lane con- ditions is opposite for the two methods. If you are trying "spot" bowling for the first time, experiment with both methods — always rolling over the centre dart, but changing your position on the approach; or keeping the same position on the approach, but aiming over different darts. Once you'- ve discovered which method seems most natural for you, the week -end grandmother, Oesch. Mr. and Mrs. Amos Ginger- ich were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gingerich. STARS OF ROMANCE discard the other system. When a bowler switches to "Spot" bowling from some ot- her system of .aiming, his scor- ing may slump slight, especial- ly if he has not been using a fully developed swing. Sioot TIMING. bowling encourages develop- ment of good control and a proper rythmic swing. As your swing improves, scores start rising rapidly.
