Kings Beat Exeter
7-1 Monday Night
The Zurich Lumberkings
trounced the Exeter Mohawks 7-
1 on the local diamond Monday
night, to take undisputed pos-
sesion of first place in the Hur-
on -Perth baesball league.
Two big innings made the dif-
ference between the two teams,
as the local crew pushed across
four runs in a big third inning
rally, and added three more in
the seventh. Exeter scored
their lone run in the third.
Exeter batters reached first
base.
The well -played game was
highlighted by a couple of shoe-
string catches by centre fielder
Doug O'Brien, which robbed
the Exeter crew of sure hits.

Zuric'h Thumps
Kirkton 26-3
Led by the thumping bat of
Paul Pearson, the Zurich Lum-
berkings powdered the Kirkton
nine 26-3 last Friday night, in
one of the most lopsided games
played in the Huron -Perth leag-
ue for many years. The Zurich
crew pounded out a total of 19
hits in the six -inning contest.
Pearson led the onslaught on
three Kirkton, pitchers, as he
smashed out five hits in five
time at bat, including two doub-
les and a triple. Larry Bedard
chipped in with four hits in six
times at bat, and Doug O'Bren
cane through with three hits
in four times. Earl Wagner
and Bill Yungblut each hit saf-
ely twice, and the extra hits
were picked up by manager Don
O'Brien, Danny Moore a n d
Johnnie Masse.
Don O'Brien went the distan-
ce for Zurich, giving up only
four hits. He struck out four
baters, while walking none.
The Kings struck for two runs
in the second inning, added sev-
en in the third, two more in the
fourth, three in the fifth, and
then had their big inning in the
sixth, when they pushed 12 runs
across the plate. All but one
Zurich batter came to the plate
twice in the wild sixth, as Kirk -
ton pitching staff failed to stop
the rally.
Danny Trushinski started on
the mound for Zurich, and pit-
ched a good game until a sore
arm forced him to retire in the
sixth. Trushinski gave up only
four hits in the time he worked,
while striking out five batters.
He was relieved in the sixth by
Johnnie Masse, who struck out
six in the last two innings, gov-
ing up no hits.
Zurich scored four big runs
in the third inning. Danny
Moore started things off with a
single to centre field, and then
after both Don O'Brien and
Trushinski walked, singles fol-
; lowed off the bats of Doug
O'Brien, Paul Pearson and Ron
Deichert.
In the seventh inning mana-
ger Don O'Brien again worked
a base on balls, then Trushinski
reached first on an error to the
short-stop, and Doug O'Brien
came through with a mighty
triple to deep right field.
Exeter scored their lone run
in the third, when Wooden led
off with a double, and scored
on Nagel's single. From that
point on in the game, only four

Masse Has No -
'fitter At Staffa
Southpaw Johnnie Masse
threw a no-hitter at the Staffa-
Mitchell Combines last Wednes-
day night, as the locals thump-
ed the visitors 8-0 in a regularly
scheduled Huron -Perth league
game.
In turning in the masterpiece,
Masse struck out 12 batters,
while giving up seven bases on
balls. Only once was he in ser-
ious trouble, that in the second
inning, when he walked three
in a row, with two out. He
