Zurich Citizens News, 1961-07-13, Page 7THURSDAY, JULY 13, 1961 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS PAGE SEVEN Department Lists Dates of Deer Season For Various Areas In Ont. The Hon. J. W. Spooner, Min- ister of Lands and Forests, has announced open seasons for hunting deer in southern Ontar- io. The seasons for the north- ern and western parts of the province were established for a three-year period which expires with the 1961 season. Details for seasons in north- ern and northwestern Ontario for deer and moose which are included in the three - year schedule are available from the Department of Lands and For- ests in summary form. There will be a bow and ar- row season for dear on Manit- oulin Island from October 19 to November 14. The regular Grand Bend Plans Stop Streets To Aid In Traffic In the interest of enforce- ment, Grand Bend council re- jected the advice of the Ontario Department of Transport and established a system of stop streets throughout the village to control speeding. Stop signs will be erected at about every second block on village streets, except for the main thoroughfares. This was one of two meas- ures being considered by coun- cil to slow down traffic in con- gester areas. The offer was re- duction of speed limit to 25 mph. The transport department ad- vised against the stop street proposal ,indicating the reduced speed limit would eliminate the need for signs. However, Cpl. Neil Chamber- lain who was consulted, said it was difficult to enforce speed limits on short stretches of road but it would be easy to check cars failing to stop at through streets. gun season will run from Nov- ember 15 to 25. The use of dogs is prohibited. The Dokis Indian Reserve lying astride the French River in northern Parry Sound Dist- rict will again have a season running from November 1 to 25, Non -Indians may not enter the reserve without the permis- sion of the Indians. However, they are invited to hunt on the reserve provided they have an Indian guide. The Crown lands in the town- ships of Matchedash in Simcoe County, will be open for deer hunting from November 6 to 9. The Counties of Leeds, Gren- ville, Prescott, Russell and that part of Carleton lying east of the Rideau River will be open from November 6 to 9. Only shotguns will be permitted in this farming area. In Carleton County lying west of the Rideau River, part of Frontenac County and those parts of Lennox and Addington, Hastings and Peterborough ly- ing south of No. 7 Highway and north of No. 2 Highway, the deer season will be from Nov- ember 6 to 11. Only shotguns will be permitted in the Town- ships of Ennismore, Smith, Douro, Dummer, Belmont, Nor- th Monaghan, Otonabee and As- phodel. In the Counties of Stormont Dundas and Glengarry the deer season will run from November 6 to 9. Shotguns only are per- mitted and the use ofdogs in these counties is prohibited. Announcing deer seasons for the Bruce Peninsula, the Min- ister said that the Township of St. Edmunds will have a deer season for archers from Octo- ber 30 to November 4. The re- gular gun season will follow in the Townships of St. Edmunds, Lindsay, Eastnor and Albermar- le running from November 6 to 11.
